Report

Report:After pushing the date back a day to allow full use of the long weekend both teams were raring to go in the David Lloyd Warehouse Arena. Well, come 8.05pm anyway, which was to have catastrophic effects later in the night.

First on:
Whiteman v Davis. With the summer captain marking this one he was eye-witness to the home player contriving to lose all three games from winning positions. Davis played some decent winners when given the chance but was clearly flagging from early on and when stretched had a tendancy to find the tin more often than not. However he managed to keep the rallies short and between the points long to hold out and win in three tight games, helped on more than one occasion by another home player failing to beat the service line to even get the ball in play.

Next door:
Lark v Cray: didn't see any of this one. By all accounts Dan came out the blocks pretty fast to take the first before things levelled out, and after some let/stroke argy bargy Cray took it in five.

Snow v Gantz: The previous meeting between these two saw a long and fairly attritional battle at Bexley and this turned out much the same. The home skipper took advantage of the late start to have some hits before the game and this showed as he found lengths, widths and heights quickly. However Gantz hung in there long enough and dug in to claw back from 8-0 to take it 10-9. He grabbed the momentum with boths hand and took the second to love before allowing the author to regroup. This duly happened and two tough games later both players walked on for the fifth with the pace having decidedly slowed. It could have gone either way but a couple of tight winners at the end took Snow through. A good tough game, and long which meant I missed all of...

Carr v Lewis - Another 5 gamer that Rob's shoot out style saw him home.

Smith v Bhana - Nanu's clean hitting wasn't quite matched by his clean heals and while he did enough to take the first two games it never looked like that was the end of it. Smith's determination saw him grab two back as the errors crept into the away man's game, however he regrouped in the fifth to take the points.

Unfortuntely that was the end of the good news for the visitors. The finish was pretty late (10.45) and the corporate love from David Lloyd had long gone home. So with bar closed and the food basically cold all that was left was for the home team to make embarassed apologies for the lack of hospitality. Sorry again lads, at least the 19 points meant you didn't have empty hands to match the empty stomachs.
