Report: | Quite a close match despite the scoreline. PL3 were definitely worried at one point during the night with the match scores at 1-1 and both Ian and Dave forging ahead in their games. Alas the forging turned into foraging and then scrambling and the match was then gone from Dulwich 3rds.
First up were the number 5's and they both huffed and puffed through the first game but Alex won through with a stroke double - some on the balcony thought this harsh treatment but squash is a harsh game at times. Dan tried his best but looked a little out of match practice and Alex started to see the light towards the end of the 2nd and then switched on the flood lights in the 3rd and Dan was done!
One the other court Antonio was trying his best to finish Mark off in 3 as he had a long drive up to see his mummy in Nottingham ahead. Antonio succeeded in his aim but alas it was Mark who closed it out in 3 although the 3rd was a close one.
Back on the other court Ian was putting Ray to the sword early on and looked in control at 1 up and 4-0 up in next but then the tide turned and Ray got his rythem going and started to dominate. The 4th set was as one sided as the 1st but in tother direction.
Dave was likewise putting Simon under pressure in his match going 2 up but Simon would not let it go and started to claw it back. The 4th and 5th sets were quite tence but SImon was just that bit more accurate and held out to take it 3-2 and win the match on the night.
Jack and Fergus started up the final match and this one was full of deft drops and volleys and looked certain to go to 5 sets especially since the fish and chip semlls were wafting up from the dining area. The 1st set was tight but Fergus just had too much for Jack but Jack fought hard in the 2nd and closed it out after both had game points. The 3rd set was the key game and Fergus just had a little more staying power and closed that out and then took the 4th with out too much trouble.
Good match but could have been closer so Dulwich must do better next time as that is 2 defeats in a row now.
The after match banter was fun with some interesting topics up for discussion - looking forward to the rematch.
PS: I forgot to take the match sheets home with me so a lot of the game scores are guestimates! |
