Report: | Playing at number 1 turned out to be a doddle and I must do this more often. A great match and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all on this warm June evening.
There is very little point in fielding a full strength team it seems. What is the point of playing a tough match for an hour or more under pressure when you can have great fun playing against a vastly superior opponent, without a care and go for winning shots under no pressure to win at all? The reality of this match was that it was easier for Park Langley than pulling in a Marseilles whorehouse during happy hour.
I tried to move this match as most of the Dulwich 2nds had arranged to watch a sporting contest of national importance rather than participate in a sporting contest of local importance (Kent Priory, north-west, division 2, no less). The options were to play with a hopelessly weakened team, move the game to Wednesday or have a double header at Park Langley for the return match. But Park Langley decided that they should make hay whilst the sun shone and so we played the match which was perfectly within their rights to enforce. Park Langley were not able to put out a full strength team on the Wednesday (lucky for them that they were not scheduled to play Bexley away) or for the return when a double header at their place was on offer as most of their team are on holiday then.
The squash was over quite quickly (I suspect as would have been the orgy in the Marseilles brothel), which enabled us to watch most of the footie. That included the best bit - no not when Rooney scored but when Ukraine scored or at least thought they had. At last some luck coming England's way - I bet Platini now wishes that he supported goal line technology.
Anyway back to playing at number 4 next week when normality might resume.
