Report: | Well now, 6 teams and all of them away except us so a choice of any court we want at P/L. THERE IS A GOD !!
With a couple of bodies missing from the fighting front through injury (Gastric and Sweaty) and after Bromley fielding a strong team last week there was an expectation this could be a tight one. Not to worry though, Big Andy was missing 2 of his superstars (well, Laney and Kimpton anyway) which definately tipped the scales Langleys way and so it turned out.
Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels v Alistair
After many months Off practicing the art of growing an excessive gut, LS2SB is well and truley back and now seems to have remembered which end of a racket to hold.
Some deft lobs and drops from Late stand in Alistair in the first had LS2SB wobbling round the court like a heavy hippo with PMTs which was amusing to watch. Like all big living things, they get there in the end which is what LS2SB did and ran out a comfortable winner.
Grim Reaper v Stu
Strange one this, very tight first game with the Reaper doing his usual court sprints to every corner getting the ball back. Stu led the first all the way until the point it matterd most with the Reaper sneaking it 10/8. At this point I went on court expecting a battle royal next door.
Five minutes later the Reaper was back with his lovely wife Giny who was questioning why he did not use more skill !!
Who needs skill when you can hack a load of rubbish which the Reaper does with uncanny regularity.
Debt Collector v Chopper Ray.
For the umpteenth time this pair got it on again.
DC aware that Chopper has had some good results of late and with some of the crap DC has been playing lately, concentration was a priority.
With that said, DC got the job done in 3.
2nd Team Reject v Big A
The score does not always tell the whole story as this result proves.
Big A strarted slowley in the first but gradually brought his boundless talent to bear with sublime racket skills and a perfectly weighted verbal assult which Reject was unable to withstand. 1 up for the big bloke.
The next 3 games followed the same pattern but without Big A converting his superior skills into points.
I'm still scratching my head working out how Reject won this one (How's that Andy?)
Numbnuts v Tom
This one went off at a rate of Knots with both players moving to the ball before the shot was played creating a lot of traffic problems.
Lots of body bouncing but ultimately Numbnuts steadily putting points on the board to take the first. The second followed the same path with the same result.
At this point Tom decided to change tactics and started playing Numbnuts rather than the ball.
Fortunately no handbags, just a shake of hands and onto the next rally.
3 zip to Numbnuts but this would be a whole different game if Tom got more court time in. (he would hit Numbnuts a lot further than last night)
So a comfortable night for the ugly bunch finishing at 9.30 which was magnificent as DC was off driving duties and someone had to make the bar bill respectable. This did not prove to be a problem for DC.
With the John Terry case in full swing it was only right to discuss the 'C' word in explicit detail and who better to lead this discussion than Big A, manfully supported by Numbnuts and DC. At the end of the evening I think it is fair to say no one was left in any doubt about the wide and varied way this evocative word could be used and expressed in a vast array of subjects.
A good night as always with the Bromley lads and look forward to the return if for no other reason, they serve the best grub in the league.
Oh, and the 'C' word is of course 'Crikey' ! |
