Report

Report:Very close match on an extremely hot night with the result in doubt all the way till the final winning shotin the 5th set of the final match on court.

1st up was Antonio and Richard and it was looking good for Antonio to begin with as he raced to a 7-3 lead in the first. Richard stemmed the flow and Antonio started making mistakes and gradually Richard pulled it back and won it to go one up. Richard continued with the same in the 2nd and took that relatively easy. The 3rd was a bit closer and Antonio managed to fend off a couple of match points before taking the game. The 4th was similarly close with Richard ahead most of the way but it looked like it might go the same way as the 3rd until Richard finished it off to go 1 up in the match.

On the other court Alex B and Robert were slugging it out with Robert just keeping himself ahead in 3 close fought games to take it 3-0 and put Blackheath 2 up.

Next on court were Alex V and John and Alex V was looking good early on taking the first two 9-0. A tripple bagel was on the cards at 5-0 in the 3rd but John dug in and got his point and then a couple more. John was not outclassed just that Alex was playing well and getting around the court to most of what John was doing. Well played Alex.

On the other court Neil was putting Kevin through his paces and making it hard for Kevin to put points on the board. Kevin made it harder in the 3rd but Neil was too good and closed it out to make the match score on the night 2-2.

Finally out came the two hard hitters from both teams in the form of Ian "Strong Arm" Armstrong and Phil "The Power" Taylor - one of whom could easily pass as a darts player - won't tell you which one! With both players trying to bash the ball into next year the ball must have been feeling quite unwell. Ian was just sharp enough to take a close first game and he then seemed to be well on top as the 2nd came and went quite quickly in Ian's favour. The 3rd was going the same way as the 2nd so it looked odds on for a Dulwich victory but alas 7-3 up was not enough of a lead and as Phil closed the gap the tide seemed to be turning. Ian had two match balls but could not close them out and Phil had his foot in the door. The 4th set was relatively easy for Phil and then we were on to a 5th set decider for the match. Phil again had the upper hand but Ian dug in and got close towards the end but Phil just had enough to see him over the line - well played to Blackheath.
