Report

Report:Top of the table clash which was always going to be a tough affair for the ugly bunch with Numbnuts deserting us for a good few beers somewhere in France.
It got even tougher when '2nd Team Reject' having assured captan Gastric that he would be back from hols was still in Turkey.
Too late to find a reserve and therefore only 4 to take on the Dulwich boys.
When your backs against the wall you just get on with it and give it your all.
Can only really comment on two games as I literally never saw a shot played on the other two.

Grim Reaper v Jon
Reaper apparently had a good run in the first which Jon eventually closed out then a vast array of nicks spiral boasts were displayed to the full by Jon in the next 2 and all was done and dusted in pretty short order.

Sweaty Sock v Stu
A little suprised by this result having seen Stu play on several occasions and watched Sweaty far too many times to remain anywhere near good health.
According to Sweaty, Stu hit the tin when going for shots and never really got out of the habit. That said, Sweaty must have played pretty well to come away with a 3/0 result against someone of Stu's ability.

Gastric Band v Ravi
This always looked like an interesting encounter.
Having played each other on several occasions previously, it was the classic encounter of the young buck full of running against the wiley old fox full of cunning.
The first was close but Ravi always seemed in control moving Gastric to all corners before closing things out 9/7.
The second was for me the key game.
Gastric into his stride but Ravi still keeping a fair element of control.
Gastric knicked it 10/8 and I think the final result may have been different if he hadn't.
Tables turned in the 3rd with Gastric looking more at ease but the 4th was very close with both players really struggling after putting in a full shift.
Younger legs just about won the day.
Lots of calls to be made by DC in the marking seat but this did not detract one bit from which was for me a really good match to watch.

Debt Collector v Olly
So into the decider and DC was not over confident having taken a bit of a mauling the last time he played Olly.
Very cagey first game with both players probably making too many mistakes when in a winning position.
Olly led throughout but DC just sneaked it at the sharp end.
The second was controlled pretty well by DC but the score bellies the effort both players were having to make and on a very warm court the longer rallies were having an effect.
Two up and DC was closing in on the match and at 8/4 things were looking done and dusted, but Olly is made of sterner stuff and does not roll over easily.
Olly clawed his way back having survived 3 match points and then promptly called 1 at 8/8. Several hand in , hand outs before Olly closed it out with a boast into the Knick.
Sweaty then came out with a great line 'Don't worry mate, you'll win the next easily, your far fitter than he is' DC at this point was blowing out of his *rse !
DC promptly showed his fresh legs by going 4/0 down in the 4th before clawing the points back and again had about 4 match balls before Olly finally rolled over.
A very tough match but really enjoyed it against a bloke who is a pleasure to be on court with.

So what was for the ugly bunch a somewhat suprising result. What wasn't suprising was the time spent in the bar afterwards.
Always a good hard scrap with the Dulwich lads but when it's all done and dusted the beer and the chat is always enjoyable.

P.s. Who needs the prima donnas sunning themselves in foreign climes, the boys in the engine room will get the job done !!
