Report: | “It’s not the graphics it’s the game play”. That sums up this week’s encounter – nothing aesthetically pleasing but enjoyable, and closer and tenser than the scoreline suggests.
Whiteman notched up his customary point before succumbing 3-1. Snow levelled things up in an error strewn game vs Dunlop, while Lark and Jardine contested a hard fought match that left the home side 2-1 up.
Next on the port side court was Mark Ford returning to the line up for his first appearance for DL since the good old days of Amida, taking on Ng. Ford may have spent the last year in dark world of racketball but it didn’t take him long to readjust to the long handled game and produce the performance of the night. Fordy’s addiction to long periods of punishment stand him in good stead for 5 gamers and his never say die attitude helped him save one match point and finally convert his forth to clinch the match. The entire tie was in the balance at one point with Ford match point down and Carr two games down next door. However the Sheedy engine ran out of gas just as Ford was taking the points, and Carr managed to string enough ‘in’ serves together to wrap things up quickly to the relief of those itching to get to the bar for a jacket and a beer.
