Home | Return to Division Fixtures
Report: | So the final curtain on what seems to have been a mighty long season. Won't be so long next season looking at the latest fixtures list.
From DC's point of view there may be no further seasons period, but more about that later.
The maths worked that the Ugly Bunch needed 7 points to clinch the league. very doable but if Blackheath had their full order playing it was far from a given.
Fortunately Andy was missing at 2 which made the task a whole lot easier.
Grim Reaper v Phil
Didn't see a whole heap of this one as I was scrapping next door. What I did see was the usual blood and guts which is always produced when these two meet.
The big difference this time was the Reaper getting his nose in front from the off rather than playing catch up. Phil took up this role manfully and pulled back the two game deficit before the relentless battering from the Reaper finally payed dividends.
A very good result for the Reaper as he has not really got close in previous encounters, also an unexpected win at the start of the evening.
Debt Collector v Rich
Now DC has an opinion on his game which is clearly not shared by his younger team mates as he thinks he has been playing pretty well of late but again, more of that later.
DC got off to a flyer going 7/0 up before the highlight of the match occured.
Rich tucked in a drop which DC reached and through up a pretty rubbish lob. Rich, standing on the T showed perfect technique on how to volley straight to a perfect length. Only problem was he missed the ball !
That pretty much summed up Rich's night and DC ran out a comfortable winner.
Sweaty Sock v Roald
Only saw a couple of rallies as I was on marking duties next door. Looking at the scores, Ferg seemed to have things pretty much under control before Roald clawed his way back and clinched a vert tight 5th.
Good result for Roald me thinks, I would have put my cash on Sweaty before the start.
Gastric Band v David.
I may be wrong but I don't think Gastric has lost a game since the band was inserted and indeed tightened as the season has progressed.
Bit of a blip in the 2nd but otherwise a very efficient performance to close this one out 3/0.
Numbnuts v Rich
Now these two have played a few times in the last couple of seasons and in each case they have been top notch matches to watch. This was no exception and in my opinion was the best of the lot.
Rich played perfect squash in the first, hitting nicks, tight drops and killing lengths. 9/0 was a true reflection of how the game went and anybody who knows of Numbnuts retrieving abilities will know that to get that scoreline without Numbnuts making a mistake takes some doing.
There was not really any obvious change in the 2nd except a will on Numbnuts part to make things happen aided by a couple of errors from Rich.
1/1 and game on. I would have expected Numbnuts to press on after a tough second but Rich was having none of it and again played some fantastic squash whilst matching Numbnuts on the retrieving stakes . 2/1 to Rich and things looking ominous for the Nuts.
At 5/1 down in the 4th and the situation was not looking any better.
Now he may look like a fragile little gay boy but underneath his feminine looks is a fierce will to win and that now kicked in. The rallies were brutal and the quality of squash getting better as the match went on from both players.
Lots of hi/ho but Numbnuts was slowly getting points on the board and finally closed out the fourth.
The fifth was all about who wanted it the most and a few errors from Rich was enough for Numbuts to grab a bit of daylight which he held to the end.
The game I watched two weeks back between the Nuts and Dave Partridge was for me the best game I had watched all season but I think this one surpassed it.
A pleasure to watch, a pleasure to score with both players giving their all in a thoroughly sporting manner.
So that's it, all done and dusted for another summer and I have to say another really good season in what I believe is the best league in the Priory.
I second Ravis view regarding the new regime at the top. A seamless transition without hiccups, can't ask for more than that.
Now like all succesful teams, you can't rest on your laurels and so is the case in PL3. Straight after the match in the bar, whispers and murmers (actually it was pretty loud and in your face!) were circulating between team mates about the demise and possible eviction of the senior citizen of the team.
This night of the long knives showed no signs of abaiting today with emails pinging back and forth describing DCs performances as 'showing a distinct downward trend', 'his movement on court is un co ordinated', 'He's senile'.
So there it is, DC has finally reached the Didier Drogba moment.
Bit harsh I thought but hey, maybe it's the Dementia kicking in !! |
