Report: | "The Badger attacks"
A bit of a first, everybody turned up early so we started on time.
Bexley were missing two of their regulars, Steve was away and Scott has soft feet so Joss and Rob stepped up.
First on Matt vs Dave.
There was much anticipation for this match as Dave had previously lost 9-1 to Matt in a "friendly game" after the previous match. Dave stared well and was very controlled taking the first game to 5 with Matt struggling, In the second Matt slowed the pace and this seemed to work taking it 15-13. the Rannard revenge which was expected in the third did not materialise and Matt took that 15-4!, I believe Dave was quoted as saying "that was a rest game". Whatever it was Dave came out all guns blazing and took the forth comfortably and was 9-6 up in the fifth and looking in control. It was then that Matt dug in, it seemed that Dave could not respond, with a run of 9 straight points Matt took the game and match! An excellent game. In his after match interview Matt responded “that was probably the best I’ve ever played”. Dave was unavailable for comment.
Unfortunately the author didn't see the match next door but he heard it! Joss going 2-0 up before running out of steam, finally somebody has beaten Joss who is still unbeaten in the NW priory div1. Well done old boy Appleby 44 and 274 days young!
Next on was Mark and Neil, Mark full of confidence after his trip to watch proper squash at the national championships. Unfortunately Mark doesn't quite have the shots of messers Nicol, Beachil and Willstrop, Neil took the match 3-0 although Mark was full of running and if he had nicked the third there may have been a different outcome. Mark retains his 100% record in the superleague. Losing every match!
Last but not least, Rob vs John, as we all know Rob is lethal over one game and duly won the first, John then got into his stride and took the next three games.
An excellent match and a good turn out to watch, good banter after as well.
Shame we lost again!
