Report

Report:BEXLEY WIN!……………..well, almost.

Rodmersham were missing Hunter (Involved in a near fatal Barcelona football diving incident) and Bexley were missing Scott (Involved in some “off pissed” activities).
First up.
Matt (Calzaghe) Badger vs Tom (Lacey) Woods, Tom started well and blistered
into the lead. Half way through the first, Matt relaxed and fought his way back. Eventually coming from 14-11 down to win 17-14. The next two games went either way as both players started to feel tired. The 4th came down to stamina and in the end there could be only one outcome. 3-1 to Matt. After the match there was boxing on the TV, (a replay of Saturday nights fight) with Tom describing himself as the favourite for the match just like Lacey was for the boxing, if you saw the fight you will know that Lacey got annihilated, nuff said!

Next up Mark vs John, Mark has been playing reasonably well of late and was hoping to make it into double figures in at least one game. Lucky for Mark, John has had “man flu” over the last few days and wasn’t feeling particularly sprightly. The first was tightly contested up to 11-11 until John pulled away, “man flu” my arse! John took control in the second and Mark was suffering, after getting a second wind in the third it was a little more contested with Mark trying to move John around and put him under pressure, unfortunately for Mark, John gets everything back! An expected 3-0 win for John, this gentle run warming him up nicely for the intercounties at the weekend up in Birmingham.

Next on was Danny vs Darren, young Danny was stepping up a level here, various players had been asked to play and various excuses had been given (Skiing, Working away, Wine tasting! You know who you are Tosh!, sore knee and playing badly, yes, playing badly was given as an excuse!). Danny started well if a bit erratic, Darren was the more consistent of the two and Danny was running well, after the first Danny was looking tired, after a lot more running Danny was looking very tired after the second. In the third, credit to him, he slowed the pace down and got back into the match. Darren was just that little bit stronger winning the match 3-0. Thanks to Danny for stepping up. Oh, and next time, remember you need to bring a squash racket to a squash match. Mark’s racket having the consolation of losing 6-0 on the night.

Last on was Steve vs Mark, Each game strangely followed the same pattern. It would be nip and tuck for the first 10 points, followed by a surge from Falla, a comeback from Mark but not quite in time to stop Steve crossing the finish line. Hard hitting throughout and hardly any lets...a good game to watch. 3-0 Steve

As usual, the after match banter was flying, Tom’s continuing battle with the Rodmersham establishment the source of great amusement, also his flattering description of his sister! Shame on you Tom. Also, forth team regular Selina Dagger (Wyatt) recognised some of the Rodmersham guys but they left before she got a chance to talk about the “good old days” at Whitstable squash club.

In Summary,
A shocking Sunderland style season for the Bexley team but Matt and Steve still performed well, Matt in particular upping his game in the second half of the season. Still hasn’t beaten me though!

A special mention to the Rodmersham team for turning up in their Audi sponsored shirts (more free advertising Mark!).

Regards,
Captain Steeden. Played 10 Lost 10
