Report

Report:So, it may have taken until the last home game of the season but alas Park Langley 5s first home match report is here!

It's been a funny old season for the PL boys, having lost 2 of their players before the season even began (1 of them literally on the eve of the season) it was unknown just how well we would fare, having narrowly missed out on promotion from the winter league last time around.

With the addition of young Robbie and the trickery of the returning Nilen after a 5yr absence from the game, PL have, after a slow start, gone from strength to strength in the 2nd half of the season.

So, to last nights fixture - PL 5 vs Blackheath 2

First on court was Robbie vs Gregor
I arrived late into the first game of this but from what I could see Robbie was up against an opponent who certainly had the fitness to run around and a unique brand of squash that could've unsettled many a player. In the end though Robbie did what Robbie does best... Got his head down, pummeled the ball to the back of the court and got off with a 3-0 win.

1-0 PL

Next up, captain did his dues and took a shift on the graveyard court vs. Kevin

Coming into this, I was hoping and praying that I would be playing anyone but Kevin. Having suffered a bout of back spasms last week, the last thing I needed was to come up against someone who retrieves and rallies as well as Kev, having played out a 3-2 with him last time around, I knew it wasn't going to be an easy one. The first game went to plan, taking it 9-4 after some decisive finishing. However, the latter stages of the second and the entirety of the 3rd game was where Kevin really turned up the pressure, forcing the captain to rethink his strategy. Somehow, after battling for 25mins through the 4th game, in some pain, victory was secured 3-1.

2-0 PL

Nilen vs. Dave
Didn't see a single shot of this encounter, however, it can't have been a long one, as Nilen appeared to start watching my match in onlyt the 3rd game. I'm told that, after a dismal start and going 6-0 down, Nilen switched on his brain and literally ploughed through his opponent. On and off court in no time. Match to PL

3-0 PL
Ryan vs. Nico
Again, came into this one late as I was still on playing duties so missed the first game. I did however see Ryan dominate from the second game onwards as Nico appeared to tire (although still with a smile on his face) and in the end closed out relatively comfortably.

4-0 PL
Last up, Paul vs. Rob
Unfortunately Rob wasn't feeling well and was suffering from double vision so this contest never really got off the ground. A shame by all accounts because it certainly appeared that Rob has a whole load of shots that surely would've tested Paul's insane retrieving abilities! In the end though a comfortable 3-0 win and securing the whitewash for PL 5-0.

And so we move towards the last game of the season, with a very slim, if not unrealistic chance of promotion still alive. Something tells me we may need a mystery virus to hit the Cobdown team bus though!

Well played to Blackheath, enjoyable evening as ever and pleasant banter in the bar afterwards.
