Report

Report:After a long wait the start line was finally crossed in this year’s Priory League with defending champions Park Langley visiting the Giant Arches fortress. The home side got of to a Quickstep start with captain Tim clearly benefitting from last weeks PSL outing and moving well for someone if not over the mountain, the wrong side of 40. The pace was up from the start with both players trying to dominate the h’T’c, but it was the Dulwich player that just managed to control things moving Steve from corner to corner and easing down the home strait for a win in 3.

Meanwhile there was a battle royal taking pace across the bar, with James rolling back the years and picking off the volleys to get the jump on Neil first 1-0 and then 2-1. Despite being on his fourth racket by the fourth game, Neil held his nerve to edge it 10/8 and then closed out the match in 5.

Jim was taking no chances in his match with Clive, gaining solid starts from the gun in each game. Some high quality rallies ensued but and despite the PL captain’s best efforts the match was won in 3 to get off Dulwich off to a winning start.

Andy and Martin started off in frantic fashion. 10 points in 3 minutes, 6-4 to Andy! The pattern continued with quick fore squash as Andy built up a lead. Martin left himself a mountain to climb with some errors in the second to find himself two down. Never being one to give up having secured a break-way Andy finished things off in three.

So it was left to Will to bring home the match in style, free-wheeling down Burbage Road. However, sadly he had left the brakes on, only discovering this at 0/8 in the first. The damage was done and that slipped away but a solid start in the second and things seemed to be back on track. Simon, however, had other ideas digging the ball out of the corners and using his go-gadget arms (that even Steve Harsum would be proud of) to hang in to rallies that were seemingly beyond him. Eventually Will succumbed and the Champions avoided a white-wash.

So after a good evening of squash the only drugs test ordered was by Dulwich on Will, we are confident that after a fine meal of EPO enhanced Olley’s Fish & Chips all will be well for the season ahead and the Dulwich campaign will Livestrong.
