Report

Report:On a less than balmy night at Fortress Giant Arches, Dulwich first saw off a spirited challenge by the boys from the Shires.

First up, Jim took on the wily Aussie. Matt has more than a couple of tricks up his long sleeves and the match followed a pattern that even John Kettley would have struggled to read. It didn’t really ebb & flow, it leapt backwards and forwards with a smattering of rallies in amongst short down pours of points. Eventually, it reached two a piece and it looked as though Matt would Rain supreme as he led 6/3 but Jim hung in and finally managed to close it out at the second attempt by the narrowest of margins.

Across the club, Antonio started strongly winning the first in style. The second was crucial, but only in as much that it seemed to hurt the home player most. Clearly Jonny had no intention being beaten and dug in like an Eskimo in a snow drift, managing to peg it back from two down to close out the match in style to even up the nights proceedings.

Dulwich were back in front when Tim managed utilise experience over youth in seeing off James. There were scattered demanding rallies, but fortunately for the home captain they came when there was a bit of daylight in the scores.

Everyone snows that Colin has been a quality squash player in his time, so Will approached the match with the utmost caution. He started brightly and edged the first, which seemed to dampen Colin spirits. The match was always on the brink of swinging the other way, but an impressive performance by Will saw him close it out in three.

Allowing Andy & Joylon the late night slot is always likely to get a Frosty reception from hungry team-mates, and the opening exchanges didn’t disappoint as the clinical lengths & drops were traded backwards and forwards. Having snuck the second when trailing through out, Andy was blown away by a Joylon storm in the third. A couple of rallies in to the fourth and a niggly ankle put paid to Andy’s challenge and the nights squash was over.

True to form and not taking the Michael, Fish and chips from Olleys were duly ordered though not without the odd sausage and a rogue salad. The usual fun banter with team T Wells and then everyone went their separate ways, however just to rub Salt in the oppositions wounds, a comedy mix up saw Jim disappearing north with Jonny’s rackets, which made no sense to anyone not even Jim!
