Report

Report:A bit of a flat match last night as PL 1 entertained Dulwich at Langley Towers. A reasonable chunk of time seemed to be spent either waiting for arrivals or multiple Dulwich boys going off to the station (at once) to collect Humberto.

With Tim and Steve L off on PSL duties, Tim had graciously arranged his team to present what would hopefully be a more even challenge than coming down mob handed. And so, on with the action.

First up London snr v Moore.
A tough first game saw the author just sneak it at the death. The 2nd looked like it was going to fit in well with the general "last man standing" tone of the evening as the author suffered a knee twinge and stopped moving. This saw Andy right back into things, and whilst the knee inexplicably cleared up again in the next two games, Andy continued on an upward trajectory while the author's shot selection suffered as the pressure was applied.

Next door Nickalls v Petronzio.
Didn't see much of this apart from the last, but Tom apparently got off to a very slow start after which he battled back to take it all the way. The bit I did see was a tough last game with Antonio lashing some good deep balls to keep Tom at full stretch and emerge victorious. Must be that low carb diet!

And that really was the end of any competitive element to the match. The remaining games were very one sided affairs.

Robbins v Wood.
Dulwich's visiting South African reminded those who saw him last time round how incredibly quick around the court he is. JEJ really looked to be suffering mentally and physically from the off. On the back of a 13hr day, mark a game and no warm up it never looked likely to be. Mike scampered nimbly around and despite the usual JEJ racket control and game reading it was only ever going one way.

Next door Thompson v Brownsdon.
Supposedly on the up-slope after injury, Martin was playing his first competitive game since retiring in a match at the start of December. Sadly it looks like a relapse as he struggled to just about make it through and now confront another spell on the sidelines. Taxi driver Will marched quickly through to take an easy 3-0.

Last on Pratt v Mesquita.
This was a mirror image of the above if what I saw was anything to go by. Humberto wasn't at the races at all. WW was in no mood to mess around after a long wait to get on and despite being there pretty early and marking several matches looked in uncompromising mood, crashing the ball to all corners in a very focused performance to save some face for PL.

No problem seeing why Dulwich are where they are in the league judging by the bar tab! I don't ever recall only seeing only 2 pints of beer on a bar bill before. Some lively chat as ever before shuffling off into the big chill.
