| Report: | On a miserable February evening when even the traffic cops would be sheltering from the wind & rain, the PL2’s made the trip to Giant Arches for a Priory battle.
Due to a few renovations the ‘show courts’ by the bar weren’t in match condition, so everyone relocated to lovely Banbury courts across the way. First up and quickest out of the blocks was Luke, who sped his way to the first game while Will was still on the starting grid. Fortunately, for the home player the petrol soon started to turn to gas then fumes and he began to reel his opponent in. After a tough battle lasting well over an hour Will secured the win in four.
Next door Simon was making Tim work for his Olleys dinner, fetching well and put the ball away nicely on the volley. Despite being behind 3/8 in the first he pegged things back to 7/8 and it was a relieved Tim that closed out the game 9/7. From there on Simon was up against it as Tim Chris crossed the court with high angled cross courts tantalisingly out of reach, which they needed to be or they were put away efficiently. After just under the hour it was the Dulwich captain who eased home in three.
Zeb was never quite at the races with Andy. Starting slowly and finishing along way from a speeding fine as Andy closed out the overall match with a solid victory. Next door Ben faced possibly the youngest player to play Priory Div.1 in the form of Jack. Barely more than an 11-year stretch in age, the youngster acquitted himself well and seemed unfazed by the trademark tight t-shirt. However, it was Ben who triumphed, but in a few years there is no doubt he will be recounting how he beat Jack!
Last up in front of the judge, sorry referee, was Paddy who like Ben was guesting from the fourth’s. He put in a solid display to see off Simon to complete a 5-0 win for the home side and not helping visitor’s quest to avoid going down much!
There’s no Pryce you can put on a good fish & chips, and that’s exactly why the first team are sponsored by Olleys! An enjoyable evening and great to see a future Priory star take a bow for the cameras.
