Report: | That was a close one to start off with - it went down to the final match and the final game and almost the final point. Well done Tunbridge Wells for pulling out a hard fought win.
Both teams are quite well matched although some of the Dulwich boys seem a bit rusty at this early stage of the season but improvements should come quickly with most of the 3rd team participating in the World Squash Day on Saturday.
Hope John recovers quickly from his calf strain.
Ian A V Ian S were up first and this was ding dong stuff all the way with Ian A just just piping Ian S to the 2nd and 4th games to finish off a hard fought match.
Antonio V Hadley seemed to be going Antonio's way early on but Hadley managed to squeeze out the 1st and the 2nd and that made it tough for Antonio who says that he is as fit as a fiddle and was demonstrating this by partaking in a greek salad instead of Olley's chips with his fish.
Jack (I have not played for 6 weeks) V Neil was a cagey affair early on and Jack seemed to remember how to play his shots in the 2nd but then Neil found another gear and Jack was left struggling to stay with the pace in the 3rd and could not muster up enough of a fight in the 4th.
Duncan V John was a bit pedestrian to start with and they both shared a game each but then the 3rd started to heat up and John just managed to hold on to take it. At the start of the 4th however John suffered a calf strain and could not continue.
That left the match score a 2-2 so it was all on the final rubber.
Colin V Paul seemed to be going Paul's way as he took the first quickly and saw off a challenge from Colin in the 2nd and was then 7-1 up in the 3rd. Colin managed to pull it back from there without dropping another point to take it 9-7 and then the fight was on. Colin again fell behind early on in the 4th and was again 7-1 down but he showed true grit to fight back again without losing a point to snatch the 4th 9-7. Unfortunately Colin could not arrange to be 7-1 down again in the 5th as that surely would have been Paul's undoing! 1st match point went to Paul at 8-7 and by this time the balcony was rocking. Colin pulled it back to 8-8 with a 3 wall boast into the nick. Paul was not done though and promptly won the serve back and then went match point up again and then finished things off to win a well earned victory for Tunbridge.
Fish and chips was then the order of the day for most except for Antonio and his salad and Ian S with his pickled eggs and chips!
See you all in the new year.
