Report: | Late kick off to the season due to Kens funeral last week.
If any of the Blackheath boys read this, thanks for your understanding it was appreciated.
So the first match at Langley since Kens passing and I for one felt a little odd at the thought that he would never again be behind the court watching and passing comment as only Ken Could !
That said I went on court remembering the positives he impressed on me about how I played (which wern't many) and will continue to do so for every match I play from here on in.
Gastric Band v Matt
Well the good news for the 3rd team was the fact that Gastric had not loosened of any notches from his fat band in the close season and looked pretty fluent around the court whilst envolved in a pretty entertaining encounter with Matt resulting in a 3/0 win for Gastric.
2nd Team Reject v Will
Reject came out of the traps flying and Will, I think making his Brands debut struggled to keep up with the pace.
This all looked done and dusted with Andy 8/2 up in the 3rd but then Will seemed to kick into gear with Reject not really diong anything different.
With a blink of an eye it was back to 8/8 before Reject finally closed things out.
Sweaty Sock v Matt.
Didn't really see much of this one as I was on marking duties next door but looking at the scoreline it looks like it was a bit of a roller coaster with Matt closing it out at the business end of things.
Debt Collector v Dan
First game was pretty nip & tuck but DC kept his nose in front throughout. Next two were much the same with plent hi/ho but DC kept adding a few points each time and Dan didn't.
Numbnuts v Dave
First time on court for Numbnuts since last season but the match was almost as high standard as the last time these two met and just as tight. Some gut busting rallies and the usual stupid retrieving which is now pretty much expected when Numbnuts is on court. Dave as last time came up with some stunning winners mixed with the odd mistake which always kept Numbnuts in with a sniff.
At 7/7 in the 5th it was Numbnuts who went for the do or die winner and clipped the tin and Dave finished things off with a perfect backhand drop.
A top match with both players getting on with things without any fuss. Again, a joy to watch and ref.
Right, that's my lot, the weather is about to get bloody cold so I'm off to Italy for a week.
Ciao
