Report: | Another close match between these teams, with Dulwich probably helped by Ray's absence on holiday.
First on court was the number 5 rubber. Two and a half games of good control and a game of hard running with half a game of luck probably sums it up. Never thought the match ball would be won, starting at 8-3 in the fourth game and then having five match balls before eventually Sam's retrieving fell short and Dulwich went 1-0 up.
Olly meanwhile took on Andy. Andy finished this off a lot quicker than he was probabaly expecting to. That brought on Dave Kettle against Fergus. Kettle had not played for two months and it showed as Fergus casually pulled him from pillar to post and took the game 3-0. Park Langley now were 2-1 up. Kettle has arranged his "pre-season" training matches for this week. Better late than never though.
The number 1 rubber then proceeded between Chris and Mark. Chris played with power and a deft touch moving his oppoenent around the court consistently. Even when losing points Chris kept to his game plan and that discipline paid off with Chris winning 3-0. The match scores were now level and that left Will versus Simon Rogers at 2nd string.
We were expecting a five setter here but Will managed to play the right shots at the right time to take the first two games quickly. Simon seemed to take longer than his usual first game to warm up. The third game then went all the way and Will pipped it 9-7 to take the game 3-0 and for Dulwich to win the match 3-2.
Enjoyable match and apres match. Look forward to the return. |
