Report: | This was the tele-visual event of the week - forget Leverson - this was the biggy today and we have the video evidence to prove it!
1st up was Duncan (The Coach) Marlow V Stuart (7-stone) Empson - the first was nip and tuck all the way but just as Stuart looked to be about to take it Duncan stepped up and calmly took tha last few points. Duncan looked to have figured out a way to win in the 2nd and just as it seemed 2-0 was on the cards Stuart won a succession of points to make it 1-1. That was probably a turning point in the match as 2-0 might have been too much for Stuart to come back from. The 3rd was again close and at 4-4 there were a number of hand outs and eventually Stuart made the move and that seemed to be enough. The 4th was one way traffic and Stuart took the match 3-1
On the other court Antonio (Salad Boy) Petronzio was taking on Chris (No Messing) Clark, Antonio was looking for a steady 1st game but Chris was having none of it and went off at a storming pace to wrap it up for the loss of just 1 point. Antonio put up some fight at the start of the 2nd but Chris soon started making progress and swiftly wrapped it up. The 3rd was one way traffic early on until Antonio pulled back a few points but the end was nigh and soon enough it was 3-0 to Chris.
On the other court Ian (Strongarm) Armstrong was taking on Ravi (Kneesy Does It) Dogra. As is usually the case this was ding dong stuff all the way with numerous lets, no lets, strokes and no strokes. Ian took an early lead in the first and just as it got close he managed to pull out 3 winning rally's in a row to take it 9-6. The 2nd game was going Ravi's way as he built up a 5 point lead but Ian fought back only to see Ravi go ahead again and just as Ravi seemed to be about to take it Ian once again put in a string of winning rally's to go 2 up. Ravi was all over the 3rd and took it quite easily for the loss of just 1 point. The 4th saw normal service resumed and it was nip and tuck with Ravi just ahead until it was that time again for Ian to string a bunch of winning rally's together to take the match 3-1.
Up next was Jack (Shortsy) Robinson V Will (Whipper Snapper) Nicholson and Jack was trying his best with deftly flighted shots throughout but Will never gives in and gets to more than most. The first saw Jack ahead early on but a string of points in two bursts saw Will take it. The 2nd followed the same pattern so it was 2 to WIll. Jack was then showing some cool touches in the 3rd and that helped him to take a string of points at the end of the game to wrap it up. Alas Will was never going to let that affect him and he kept up the pressure in the 4th and was soon seeing it go his way to take the match 3-1.
Finnaly we had Colin (Ain't No One Lobbing Me) Wilson and Chris (Drop it Like It's Hot) Wilkes. The first was a sketchy affair and although Chris was in charge there were strong signs that Colin was a good match for him but Chris took it to go 1 up. The 2nd was proof of the pudding as Colin began to control his game a little better and the match and that soon saw him making it 1-1. The 3rd saw Colin continue to control the match with Chris making more mistakes especially when asked to drop the ball on his back hand side. With Colin now 2-1 up the 4th was a tight affair with some good rally's by both. Just as Chris took a lead near the end of the game Colin stepped up and forced his way through to take the match 3-1.
So the match ended with a 3-2 win to the Dulwich 2nd team but it was hard fought win so well done to them. |
