Report

Report:Whoever won tonight would end up in 2nd place so it was always going to be a close one.

1st up was newby Chris against oldby Fergus and Chris seemed to have too much energy for Fergus. The 1st game was nip and tuck early on but Chris was just ahead most of the way and closed it out. The 2nd saw Chris take an early lead and although Fergus pulled it back that was the cue for Chris to extend it again and go 2 up. The 3rd was a much closer battle all the way but Chris just had enough to see it through to take it 3-0.

Next up was Duncan and Dan and this too started of as a close one but as the first game progressed Dan gained in confidence and was playing some nice volley drops and boasts to finish it off. This seemed to result in Dan continuing to make the running in the 2nd but Duncan was not putting away any chances that came his way so promptly went 2 down. The 3rd saw a determined Duncan take early control only to see it whittled away but then some good squash saw Duncan regain control and take his first of the match. The 4th saw a more determined Duncan pushing things all the way and despite a match point for Dan it was Duncan who managed to take a tight game. The 5th seemed to be too much for Duncan as Dan took an early lead and he regained his touch from the first 2 games and was soon winning the match ball to make it a 3-2 win.

Next up was Jack and Ray and although Jack took an early lead Ray got it back level at 5-5 and then after a few hand outs took 4 quick points to go 1 up. Jack was in charge in the 2nd and took it quite easily to level things up. The 3rd was the decisive game and this one saw both players having periods of dominance but in the end Ray was the more consistent and just managed to take it 7-9. The 4th saw Ray continuing to be consistent whilst Jack showed only sporadic hints of how he can play and it was soon done and dusted with Ray the victor.

Next up were the number 1's Antonio and Mark and this was at that point the match of the night with some hard fought rally's all the way. The 1st was very tight and just as Antonio looked to be making a move he was halted by Mark's resistance who managed to close it out 9-7. The 2nd was tight but Antonio was edging ahead until Mark again restored the balance and marched through with 6 points on the bounce. Mark moved steadily to a winning position at 7-2 in the 3rd but Antonio was not done and he got to work reeling Mark in. The hard work paid off and Antonio saved 6 match points to take the 3rd with some entertaining squash by both players. The 4th saw Mark take an early lead and although Antonio pulled it back Mark made sure this time to take the match 3-1 and give PK3 a win on the night.

Colin and Paul were the final players on court and this one turned out to be the match of the night. The 1st went on quite a while and saw Paul taking a lead early on but just as Colin got level at 6-6 Paul won a string of points to take it. The 2nd was a reverse of the 1st so Colin won out with a similar score although he seemed more in control of the game at this stage. The 3rd was another long one but Colin was in control once again. Paul fought back well towards the end just as it looked like Colin would win it with some to spare. However it was Paul who got to game point first only to see Colin take it 10-9. By this time things were getting quite stretched with Paul seemingly doing a good impression of a break dancing squash player spending most of the time with one hand on the floor but to great affect as it enabled him to get to many a shot that most wouldn't have got to. Some great rally's were viewed by an enthralled and noisy gallery and the 4th was a repeat of the 3rd but this time Paul came out on top to level things up at 2-2. That game meant PK3 were going to have enough points to go to 2nd spot in the league. The 4th game seemed to be the end of Colin as Paul took an early lead but then just as Paul reached match point another mammoth rally seemed to have Paul on wobbly legs just ready for a knock out punch and although Colin managed a short revival Paul just had enough to finish it off and win a fantastic match 3-2.

Well done Park Langley although you will do well to get near the Dulwich 2nd team who seem to be marching away with div 2.

All the best - see you all next year.
