Report: | An entertaining local derby was played out on the hallowed courts of Dulwich between the 2nds and the 3rds. The 2nds were a little depleted with Clarky in the 1sts, Stu Empson watching Arsenal, Kettle absent and the usual number 5, Dogra, with a fractured fibula sustained during the match against Biggin Hill the previous week. Though winning that match helped ease some of the pain, and perhaps make that the only match in Kent Priory history to be played with a fractured leg...and won, this might take a while to fix.
The 3rds provided stiff competition from the start with Duncan taking Olly all the way before losing in five. The surprise package was Duncan Green from the 4ths who overcame Ian Armstrong with some hard hitting of his own to counter his opponent's trademark shots.
Then followed the number 1 seeds and Will was keen to move on from the previous week's game and beat Antonio which he managed in three games, though the first two were tight and could have gone the other way. Meanwhile Chris and Jack were having a shoot out which ended in Chris' favour leaving the 2nds 4-0 up. This left the old stalwart Steve Harsum to take on new boy Colin. Both are similar in stature and style but Steve plays once every two weeks now and could not sustain his game going down in four to Colin.
It would seem that celebrations are in order as Dulwich 2nds have taken the division 2 championship. The team is unbeaten in 14 games with two left to play. It might have looked easy but this could have been very different. We had narrow 3-2 wins over Park Langley, Dulwich 3rds and Beckenham in the first half of the season. Even some of the other matches were close notwithstanding the match results. Last season those matches went against us and this season we managed to scramble the wins. Credit to my players for the great job they have done for the club and to all the other clubs in making division 2 a thoroughly enjoyable experience each season that I have played in it.
Looks like division 1 now. Ouch!
