Report: | This turned out to be an enjoyable club evening with the return of the PAR scoring system producing fast and attacking squash. It was not PAR that was the undoing of the newly promoted 2nd team but the quality of their opponents.
First up was Chris Wilkes whose last time on court was when the country was still shrouded in winter. Not much change in the weather and not much change in Wilkes with a few tins followed by a few nicks which played to Brendan's strengths as was clear from the scoreline. Chris had a magnificent winter season and managed to notch up a higher nicks tally than tins tally but things might not be the same here in div. 1. Meanwhile Olly took on Antonio. In division 2 Antonio would have been at 1 and Olly at 4. That gulf was obvious in the first two games but then Olly started to pull back and put in two tremendous games but lost 1-3.
Ben and Sean next on at 5 with Ben supporting some nasty wounds. Ben does not have much luck with bikes. It was a bike crash that put him out of squash for almost two years and now it was another bike crash that saw him with his skin peeled off but with limbs intact. A five setter with the men on court for over an hour added two more points to the 2nds tally and gave the 1sts the match. Yawn we thought - our winter season read played 16 won 16 but something tells me that our summer season may just be a wee bit different. However at number 1, Jon was about to restore some pride for the lower team. Having been out for 9 months and having played like a three legged donkey chasing his tail a couple of weeks ago, Jon produced quite a performance gainst the club champion Andy to win in five. That left Will B against Dave. Dave made a match of this and sneaked a game.
Roll on 10.15 and a civilised time to sit down to sustainably fished cod n chips with a glass or two of ale. |
