Report

Report:PL entertained Dulwich I at Langley Towers last night. The author was a little delayed in arriving but the match turned out to be a keenly contested affair.

First up London jnr v Garner
I saw the last rally only in this one having arrived shortly after 8pm. Not much to say really. Steve's analysis was that Tim played his usual tight game with a lot of very accurate lobbing and highly effective skid boasts. This combined with a few tense mistakes by Steve when the opportunities were there to be taken, meant Tim eased away from evens in the middle of each game to win them.

Next up Young v Brownsdon
I saw a little of this one on the next door court and it looked to be quite tight. The result sounds to have been decided on fitness in the end. Zeb wasn't quite sure how he'd managed to take the 3rd, and that can quite clearly be seen by the result in the 4th. Will had plenty left in the tank to steamroller through for the win.

Next on Pratt v Moore
WW needed a fair amount of pointing in the right direction in this one. After a ridiculous 1st game spent dinking (not so sure whether that ought to be a "C" in place of the first "N") the ball around and getting chopped, the author advised WW that a change of tactics was in order. WW duly obliged and from this point onwards played a very sensible and controlled game. Very competitive squash with, amazingly, Andy just making a couple of key mistakes when it mattered. WW ran out fairly comfortably from the middle of the 5th to win.

Next door Culver v Mesquita
Didn't really see any of this, but Zeb confirmed that Simon played very measured squash to ease through in 3 games against Humberto. No side effects from his fortnight's squash lay-off (wish it was the same for Zeb and the author)!

Last on, and the match decider: London snr v Hughes.
After a very long antipodean absence the author had a bit of a double take to see Brendan back in the Dulwich fold. This was a hard fought match ultimately decided by Brendan's highly tricky boasting. The author was unable to get a fix on the destination of said boasts in the first couple of games. The 2nd was very tight and just sneaked at the death to equal things. The 3rd was a rout with Brendan blitzing through. The finale though was two games rolled into one. Despite 4 unconverted game balls and 7 saved match points the author was unable to play the sensible shots when it mattered most and the battle royal went Brendan's way to snatch the team victory.

The PAR scoring still resulted (thanks in no small part to the above) in a 10.30pm finish. After a bit of a stretch to warm down, cooling off and a shower, the author arrived in the bar to see tumbleweed only blowing through with all except Simon (clutching everyone's subs) having headed for the hills.
