Report

Report:Early signs at Dulwich were that the frantic Priory activity would go well beyond 11pm as there were 5 players in the club soon after 7.30pm but none were playing each other! This seemed ever likely as the first two exchanges started out with a couple of long testing games to open proceedings.

Willian and Jonny cracked the ball all over the court, and it was latter who hung on in each of the first two nicking a winner having squandered a couple of game balls in each. Will came out strongly in the third and looked to be back in the match in taking third, but errors early in the fourth proved costly as Jonny saw the finish line in site and punched a few winners.

Meanwhile Jim was looking for revenge over Jolyon but soon found himself game ball down in the first. However, he managed to save three of them before managing to Gedo the line at the second attempt. The second was equally tough to 7-7 when Jolyon’s 3 week break in the south of Spain started to have affect and Jim eased through that and then the third to tie things up.

Tim was obviously keen to show some bouncebackability after last week’s reversal to Ben, and got on to the ball quickly (for a man of his age) against James. There were plenty of high energy rallies but it was generally Tim that managed to get his Shotton target to take points and the match. Two one Dulwich.

Colin has clearly been doing some pre-season training, turning up a couple of stone lighter and lither than in recent fixtures. This paid dividends early on as he moved to two games ahead against Andy, but the Dulwich stalwart wasn’t broken or even beaten when it would have been easy to Bale. He pulled one back and then dug Real deep to scrap his way back from 6-8 in the fourth and finally hold his nerve to edge the fifth and the overall match.

First team debutante Duncan took on Dean and his full Arsenal of shots. Dean plays a unique style of squash and Duncan coped well early on but couldn’t nick a game, but then got his reward with the third to take the match in to a late night fourth. Dean clearly pumped up and, for once, didn’t fancy a fifth even berating himself an ‘Infidel’ on hitting tin. Not a common phrase on a squash court but he paid heed and closed out the match in four!

Afterwards there was much discussion about the Dulwich's overseas expansion on the Junkies tour and both teams were United in their enjoyment of Olley’s finest fish & chips
