Report

Report:Dulwich 3 kept up the whitewashing theme that seems to be prevalent in the early stages of this summer's division 2 encounters. Blackheath 1 were the unlucky recipients tonight after they had basked in the limelight of whitewashing their previous opponents.

The match result was therefore decided by the 1st match on between Antonio and Richard and the early stages suggested that Richard was going to dictate play as he took solid leads in the 1st two games but only managed to take 1 of the games so at 1-1 it was still difficult to see who was going to win. Antonio was possibly suffering from a tough 1st team match on Tuesday but he turned things around again in the 3rd and was generally on top for most of the 4th resulting in a solid 3-1 win.

Next up was Greg and Ville and this one was nip and tuck in the 1st two games but Ville seemed to have the edge and hence went 2-0 up. Greg dug in and kept ahead all through the 3rd to make it 2-1 at which point Ville had to withdraw suffering from food poisoning so the match was forfeited to Greg although he would probably feel that he was on course for a hard fought 5 setter.

Next up was Colin and Tom and this was close early on with Tom just scraping the 1st after a burst of points towards the end of the game. Colin then started to take control and was always a clear leader in the 2nd and the 3rd. At 2-1 up it seemed likely that the result would be 3-1 to Colin but the 4th was hard fought all the way and it could have gone either way but Colin finished it off to win 3-1.

On the other court Ian was up against Sean and tall guys usually prove to be a nit of a nemesis for Ian but not this time! The early stages of each game were fairly even but once Ian got his drive and boast game going the points came soon after that and he won out in 3 straight sets.

The final game was Paddy and Phil and this turned out to be the game of the night and could easily have gone to 5 sets. Each game was tight apart from the 4th. Both players were playing some solid squash with the odd mistake along the way as tiredness started to affect things. The 1st two were tight but both went Paddy's way with the 2nd going to 10-9. This game seemed to affect Paddy a little as Phil was on top early on in the 3rd and took it for the loss of only 2 points which suggested that a 5 setter was on the cards. The 4th was hard fought and at 7-7 it was anyones but Paddy just managed to keep his nerve a little better and that was the difference.

A whitewash for the 2nd week in a row for both teams and it therefore seemed fitting that white cod was then served for the meal.

Wonder who's gonna be whitewashed next week!
