Report

Report:This one was closer than Dulwich 3 were planning for and in the end it could have gone either way.

The away team took their time getting to the venue so it was a late start and we ended up just 2 games short of a full complement of games so the food arrived well before the final match had finished.

1st up were Paddy and Ben with Ben a bit out of sorts with a blistered big toe so Paddy swept through the 1st game without too much trouble. Ben started the 2nd a little better and a pattern for the rest of the match emerged with Paddy now seeming to be suffering with tin-itus. Ben was steadier as Paddy could not capitalize on his opportunities to put the ball away. Ben took the 2nd and the subsequent two in much the same vain to win 3-1.

On the other court old mates Tom and Sean were battling it out with Tom in control from the start and just having too much in the 1st then ratlling thorough the 2nd. The 3rd could have been pivatol as it was close one and after Tom secured a match point but did not convert it then when Sean made it 8-8 Tom went for set 1 as he always seems to and Sean duly dispatched it to bring it back to 2-1. The 4th was tight until half way then Tom just edged clear to take the match 3-1

Next up were the two tall guys Colin and Steve. Steve had not played for 3 months but you would not have known it as he was his usual self once the 1st game was out of the way. Steve seems to have Back-Court-Itus as he just can't let the ball go behind him no matter how far away he is from it as it flies by. The 2nd and 3rd were tough games for Colin as he lost them both from strong positions - one of them from 7-0 up! However Colin dug in at 2-1 down as he took a leaf out of Steve's book and also started refusing to allow the ball to go behind him. A good match saw Colin just edge past Steve maybe with a little more fitness to take it 3-2 - best match of the night.

One the other court Greg was taking on Luke and these two also seemed well matched. Some energy sapping rallys saw both guys having to do a lot of work to put points on the board and the each took it in turn to win games - luckily for Greg he won the 1st so it was only fit and proper that he would also take the 5th set to win the match 3-2.

Finally up came the two power rangers Ian and Nic and this too was a ding dong affair but more of a ding than a dong! Each player took it in turn to play shots or take a rest thus resulting in a 5 set match that lasted about 30 minutes. Nic finished it off in style with a string of clear winners in the 5th.

So Dulwich 3 take the win but Dulwich 4 gained some well earned to move off the bottom of the division.
