Report

Report:Clash of the number 2's & 3's tonight and the result was not what we expected from how the season has panned out so far!

Dulwich 3 were at more or less full strength and Bexley were missing 1 I believe.

1st up were Colin and Shaun and it was hot hot hot - the temperature that is! Shaun was playing well and Colin finding the heat a little harder to deal with. Shaun took the 1st after a bit of early tussling. in the 2nd Colin seemed to have it sussed at one point with a soft hands approach but Shaun got back in to it just as it seemed to be slipping away and managed to finish strong to go 2 up. The 3rd was similar to the 1st but once Shaun got ahead Colin seemed to lose focus and was soon facing match point against - a minor fightback from Colin was not enough and Shaun soon had it won in 3.

On the other court Ian and Nanu were battling it out with Ian taking control early on and marching off to a clear win in the 1st. The 2nd was a closer game all together and it could have gone either way but just at the crucial point in the game Ian took the points to make it 2-0. The 3rd saw Nanu taking control and he was always ahead but just as Ian was catching up Nanu won a handful of points to make it 2-1. The 4th saw Ian take back control and although Nanu won the 1st point Ian was soon marching off with the game to take the match 3-1.

On the other court Greg and Chris were sweating it out with Greg in control in the 1st taking it for the loss of just 3 points. The 2nd was close all the way with Greg just edging it towards the end. The 4th was all one way traffic with Chris going 8-0 up before Greg won his only point of that game. At 2-1 the match was poised for a 5 setter and the 4th set was a ding dong game with Greg just seeing it out at the end with a couple of points from 7-7.

Next up were Paddy and Jack and Paddy seemed to be dealing with the heat better from the off as he was playing a faultless game whilst Jack was struggling to get started. Paddy took the 1st for the loss of just 1 point and the 2nd was even more one sided until Jack got a couple of points at the end of the game. The 3rd saw Jack making much more of a fist of it and he seemed to be in charge until he got to a winning position at which point Paddy made a comeback. Jack then proceeded to get a game point but then went back to his earlier miss firing game and Paddy soon had match point and did not need a 2nd and took the match 3-1.

Dulwich were now 3-1 up and the final match of the night was in progress with Tom and Rob battling it out. Rob seemed to be more in control of what was going on in the 1st two and steadily progressed to a winning position in both games and took a 2-0 lead. Tom is becoming renowned for 5 set matches where he calls 1 at 8-8 in the 5th set and loses as a result so we knew what was coming! Tom duly began the fight back in the 3rd and although it was close he just edged it. The 4th saw Tom in control and he made it 2-2 for the loss of 1 point. The 5th was close all the way as expected but unfortunately for Rob he reached 8 first and then inexplicably called set 2 despite being warned of Tom's nemesis. Tom was so psyched out by being asked to play set 2 that he promptly went and won the bloody match!

Good win for Dulwich and we are all looking forward to the break between the 1st and 2nd half of the summer season!
