Report

Report:Both teams were a little depleted tonight so it was likely to be a close one.

1st up where Greg and Matt and game one looked to be going Greg's way until he had game point at which point Matt turned it around with 5 points in a row to go 1 up. The second game was all Matt as he continued his winning streak with the next 9 points to go 2 up. The 3rd saw Greg stage a fight back and take it with some to spare so a 5 setter looked on the cards. The 4th however saw Matt take control again and he was soon at match point and that was it done.

On the other court Ian and Tobyn were battling it out. Ian was ahead early on and each time Toybyn closed the gap Ian made it wider again eventually taking the 1st game. The 2nd saw Ian take an early and decisive lead which Tobyn was unable to bridge so it was soon 2-0. The 3rd followed the same pattern as the 2nd and Ian was soon finishing it off despite a rally from Tobyn towards the end.

On the other court Duncan was taking on deserter Dan who was a Dulwich nominee at the start of the season but switched to Bexley Park. This was an interesting encounter as the two often lock horns in the Dulwich internal leagues. Duncan started off the stronger and after a string of points early on always looked the likely winner of the 1st game and after a 10 handouts at 7-2 Duncan then finished it off. The 2nd saw Dan really make a charge with some combative squash and just as he seemed to be about to take it Duncan fought back well to take it 10-8. The 3rd was very similar and again Dan got to game point first only to see Duncan battle hard to keep in the game and eventually win it and the match.

On the other court Paul (Dan's brother) was playing for Dulwich against Fraser and this one seemed likely to be close. The first game saw Paul play some nice controlled squash and take command but at 7-3 up Fraser suddenly strung a bunch of points together to bring it back to 7-6 only to see Paul clean it up and go 1 up. The 2nd seemed to be going Paul's way at the start but then it turned and Fraser found his feet (they were on court 2) then string together 8 points in a row and despite Paul adding a couple more to his total Fraser finished it off at his next hand out. The 4th saw Fraser continue where he left off and he was soon 5 up with Paul putting it in the tin when having chances to win points. Just as Fraser reached match point Paul seemed to play a more combative game and this seemed to be having more success but Fraser was too far ahead and eventually he made it count.

So at this point it was 2-2 on the night and Bexley Park were on the verge of a big win so on came Colin and Ross.

The first was close early on as both players tried to get going but soon enough Ross started to find the nick and he seemed to be too strong for Colin and a run of points from 3-4 down saw Ross take the first game. The 2nd game saw Ross start well and take an early 6-0 lead but Colin fought hard and eventually got it back to 6-6 and then move ahead. With Colin at game point Ross staged a mini comeback to make it 8-8 but Colin kept his work-rate up and finished it off. At 1-1 it seemed likely that the game may have turned in Colin's favour and that was proved correct as it was Colin who went 6-0 up this time. Ross tried hard but Colin claimed the 3rd game for the loss of just 3 points. The 4th game saw Colin maintain a grip on things and it was soon match point to Colin and a 3-2 win to Dulwich on the night was secured.

Well played to Bexley park as it could easily have been their win.

Olleys Fish and Chips was warmly welcomed by all along with some good chat afterwards.
