Report

Report:With Dulwich 3rds short of a couple of players this looked like being a tough one to get a result from and that proved to be the case.

1st up where Paul and Richard and this looked likely to be a close one early on. Richard took an early lead in the 1st and Paul gradually started to close the gap but a little too late to stop Richard going 1 up. The 2nd game was close early on and there were a number of handouts until Richard broke loose and won a string of points to go 2 up. The 3rd saw Richard starting to dominate a little and although Paul got a few points towards the end Richard finished it off for a 3-0 win.

On the other court Alex and Sam were doing battle and again this looked likely to be a close one but Alex was making too many mistakes in the 1st and Sam won it without dropping a point. The 2nd continued in the same vain but even with numerous handouts it was always Sam picking up the points. The 3rd saw Alex getting into it a little more and at 3-5 down it seems possible that Alex might start to turn it around but alas Sam proved the more consistent and took it for a 3-0 win.

Back on the the other court Tom was taking on Toby and Toby's accurate play was making Tom do all the running. The first went Toby's way but the next two saw Tom make life difficult for Toby. At 6-6 in the 2nd Tom had a chance to test out Toby's fitness but Toby came through to go 2 up, The 3rd again saw Tom putting up a fight but Toby just had too much and saw it off to win 3-0

Next up were Greg and Simon and SImon started off well taking a commanding lead before Greg got going. Simon then finished off the 1st for the loss of just 3 points. The 2nd saw Simon again taking an early commanding lead but then Greg fought back hard to make things level at 6-6 but just as Greg seemed to be about to level the game scores Simon put together a short burst to go 2 up. The 3rd saw Greg making things increasingly harder for Simon and Greg lead early on only for Simon to pull it back and sneak ahead but just as it seemed Simon would see it out Greg put together a string of points to take the game. The 4th set initially saw Greg taking a lead but Simon then had a string of points to take a commanding lead and although Greg picked up a couple more points Simon worked hard to finish it off for a 3-1 win.

Finally it was old foes Ian and Ray and these are usually 5 setters at Dulwich. Early exchanges suggested Ian was going to take the 1st but an attempt to dig the ball off the wall by Ian caused some racket damage and that then changed the momentum. Ray then proceeded to take a commanding lead and Ian could not pull it back so Ray went 1 up. The 2nd saw Ray start off well only for Ian to fight back to bring things level at 3-3. The crunch then seemed to come with both going point for point and after a number of handouts Ian then put together a string of winners to take the game and make things level at 1-1. The 3rd saw Ian taking command with an early lead and between handouts it was Ian making progress each time. At 8-1 up it all looked done and dusted but then Ray started to concentrate and the points started to flow. At 8-4 Ray was convinced the score was incorrect and the old grey matter seemed not to be working! Ray then continued to push on and at 8-7 he looked to have made a full recovery and just at that point Ian raised his game to finish it off and go 2-1 up. The 4th game was all Ian and despite numerous handouts it was Ian picking up the points and soon he was points 7 up. Ray managed to get a couple of points at that stage and Ian no doubt reminding himself about the previous game then closed it out for a 3-1 win.

Park Langley were the rightful winners on the night and they look likely to go on now and secure 3rd spot - well done.
