Report

Report:This was essentially a mid-table battle with Dulwich looking to avenge a 3-2 loss in the first half match with both teams missing just one from their full strength team.

1st up were Ian and Ken and this was a close one in the end with lots of hard hitting from both players. Ian was ahead early on in the 1st only for Ken to battle back from 8-3 down to 8-7 at which point Ian finished it off to go 1 up. The 2nd again saw Ian taking an early lead and again at 8-2 up Ken started to recover things and when he leveled it up seemed likely to make it 1-1. Ken had game point but Ian managed to stop the rot and took the next 3 points to go 2 up, The 3rd saw Ken take command and he won it for the loss of just 3 points despite numerous handouts. The pattern seemed to be winner, tin, tin ,winner from both sides. The 4th saw Ian nudging ahead early on but he got stuck on 4 and Ken was too good and it was soon all square at 2-2. The 5th was a tight one with the lead swapping hands all the way and at 7-7 it was anyones. Ian managed to make the shots to win the last two points to win a very competitive match.

On the other court Greg was taking on Andy and Greg seemed to be on form with Andy finding the court a little cold and soon enough Greg secured a bagle to start with. Andy started off well in the 2nd but once Greg got going he was again in a commanding lead. Andy again fought back and pushed hard to make it level at 8-8 and despite a number of handouts it was Greg who make it count and he was then 2 up. The 3rd saw Greg gradually pick up the points with solid play and despite Andy trying hard it was not enough and Greg secured good 3-0 win.

Next up where Tom and Ray and this one saw Tom more in tune with the colder court than Ray. Ray was making too many mistakes and Tom soon took an early lead. Ray got a few points back but then Tom walked through the remaining points without too much trouble to go 1 up. The 2nd saw Tom marching off to a commanding lead with more of the same as the first. Ray got a couple back towards the end but Tom finished it off to go 2 up, The 3rd saw Tom doing much the same as the 2nd and again Ray got a few back near the end but soon enough Tom had it won in 3.

On the other court Duncan was up against Chris and this was quite a tight game. Duncan was just doing enough to make the difference and despite the numerous handouts he won the 1st relatively comfortably. In the 2nd Chris was on top early on but Duncan fought back well to keep it tight and just as Chris seemed to be edging ahead Duncan stood firm and went from 5-6 to game point. Chris worked hard to bring it back but Duncan eventually finished it off to go 2 up. In the 3rd Duncan seemed to be more in charge and the points mounted up and soon enough it was match point and despite a late charge from Chris it was Duncan's match in 3 hard fought games.

Finally it was Colin and Justin and the 1st game was a close one which could have gone either way. Colin was in charge and should have finished it off at 8-3 up but being 8-3 or 8-2 up seems to be Colin's nemesis at times. Justin did well to get back level and despite Colin's 4 game points it was Justin who finished it off to go 1 up. The 2nd was tight early on but Justin then put a string of winning rallys together to run away with it and go 2 up. The 3rd saw Colin regain some composure and he looked to be about to make it 2-1 but at 6-3 up it started to tighten up and Justin gradually moved level then ahead and then match point came quickly and it was all done in 3.

Good match and could easily have been a 3-2 as in the first half.

Look forward to more battles with Sundridge Park in the winter and next summer.
