Report

Report:Always a tough match. PL always seem to manage to lose to Cannons no matter how strong their line-up. Well not this time, though it was looking odds on for a while.

The first match on was Darren v Adam. After getting off to a good start Adam was pegged back by some tight hitting from Darren and a few over ambitious misses. Having narrowly failed to get back into the 3rd game Adam responded well to the backroom staff's urging for patience and turned on some quality stuff to win both 4th & 5th games.

Meanwhile the Whirlwind was on the other court playing Cannons regular no.2 Richard Kimpton. Steve obviously took time to adjust to his borrowed racket (Matt) and borrowed right(!) shoe (Clive), and went down easily in the first two games, with a return to the bad old days. Credit where credit's due though. After a pep talk from his coaching entourage, Steve completely turned it around, with an unbelievably disciplined performance, running out a comfortable winner in the next 3 games.

So it looked like panic over - or was it? Matt was on against wily old fox Peter Willmor next. Peter seems to be turning in some good results lately, and tonight was no exception. Revelling in his long (by his standards) injury free spell, he overcame a hiccup in the 2nd to cruise through to victory.

So, all still to play for, and not for the first time, the London family took to the courts needing at least one good performance between them.

First Clive v Dave Leach. After being tied in knots by Dave for most of the 1st game, Clive managed to find some rhythm, sneaked the first, and got on top in the 2nd and 3rd to register a 3-0.

Whilst this was going on, Steve was revisiting the battleground against his bete noire, Sam Stabler. Tonight was a very different story to the usual problems though. Steve capitalised on his current good form, winning both the first two games by what looked like comfortable scorelines (though it was fiercely contested stuff). Having gone 8-2 up in the 3rd though, the wheels came off for a while, and Steve had to regroup in the 4th, reestablishing his command to run out 3-1. Sam was to be heard bemoaning his lack of fitness, court time etc after this. Well you know the answer Sam, unpalatable though it might be!

So, the PL march to glory continues. The plan seems to be to rack up as many points as possible, before everyone disappears to all points of the compass - yes it's going to happen.
