Report: | Its was a relatively calm start to the evening’s proceedings at the Giant Arches stadium with Joe having arrived nice and early, and being called into action for some hitting for the new Dulwich website!
First on was windy Will Brownsdon taking on new comer Henry. The Canterbury no.5 was concerned about the length of the early rallies, in particular if they stretched out over 5 games. Not wishing to rain on his parade, his concerns were unfounded with Will winning in straight games!
Across the way, Tim was doing battled with Tom. The latter started brightly opening up an early lead in the first which Tim pegged back to a tie break. However, Tom was not done and managed to close it out at the fourth time of asking. The Dulwich captain levelled things up but never looked in control, and was relieved to edge the third. The fourth continued in the same pattern with Tim eventually putting paid to a gusty performance from Tom in four.
With things looking for good the home side, Jason took on the might of John at two. Having had a titanic tussle over the first it was John who came out the stronger in the second to carve a path of destruction through that and the third to pull one back for the visitors.
Joe came out flying in the battle of the 4s, with Paul doing well to cope with the maelstrom but getting sucked in to the frenetic pace all too often. Having lost the first two, it looked like he may have weathered the storm in the third edging ahead before unfortunately clipping a couple of tins to go down in three.
So it was down to a decider, Jim took the first but ever resilient Duane battled back to sneak the second 16/14. Jim battened down the hatches and took the third, before Duane suffered a small power cut from 3/3 in fourth and Jim was able to get home and secure the team win.
Afterwards Olleys provided the usual high quality food, but they did think we were taking the Michael, Fish for eight and two rogue bangers! So another tough encounter with the men from the Shire, but a fun evening all round.
