Report

Report:Both sides at full strength last night as PL 1 entertained Dulwich 2. I arrived with the match of the night in full blooded flow ...

London jnr v Wilde
This was a fast and furious affair, with no quarter asked or given (and that seemed to include the marker)! Nothing really to separate these two, who by now know each other's game pretty well. Long rallies with a lot of high quality squash. Once again for Steve, things turned on a couple of mistakes at crucial times at the end of games, but a great match to get proceedings under way.

Next door, Pratt v Nicholson
After dragging themselves away from the ensuing battle on the next court, WW looked to quickly get in control. Having done so, the bad old Steve briefly surfaced as a big lead disappeared. In the end WW did enough to sneak the 1st, and from there on in it was one way traffic as a bagel was followed by a comprehensive 3rd to wrap up a good win. It's only taken 15 years but I think the message is finally starting to sink in!

Next up, Culver v Brooker.
Didn't see any of this due to playing duties but it appears that Simon wrapped things up in a fairly efficient manner as usual, taking a 3-0 victory and leaving the good ship Langley on course.

Next door, London snr v Kettle.
A bit of a bizarre match this. The author got in the driving seat in the 1st (itself a rarity), but it was a horribly scrappy affair that set the tone for the whole match. A massive switch off assisted by some "interesting" winners off the Kettle racket (well the edge of it on a few occasions!) saw the match level pegging. Next it was Dave's turn to switch off and make a few mistakes as he lost the 3rd. The 4th was rather more even, but the author did enough to take it.

Last on, Robbins v Clark.
I don't think I've ever seen JEJ look so jaded as in this match. Eight straight hours of coaching obviously not the best preparation for a match. Chris was his usual sweetness and light self, and in fairness played some good winners, particularly short kills, but JEJ's own analysis after the match that it was the worst he'd played since he was 15 seemed pretty accurate.

So, in the end a battling victory for PL as we repaired to the bar. A good evening's proceedings as ever with Dulwich ...
