Report: | All feeling a bit lonesome at PL yesterday as we were the only team at home thanks to the vagaries of the fixture list. Not really sure how this occurs. Still, Bromley CC looked to be full strength so an interesting match in prospect.
First up: Pratt v Ryall.
Steve was v.keen to play and go (no change there then). His new brand of sensible squash was deployed from the off against a very subdued looking Lewy who took the first two games to get warmed up. By the 3rd he was starting to get into it but it was a bit too late by then as the game meandered towards an anti-climactic finish and a good win for Steve.
Next door: Kennedy v Horder.
Another good, hard earned victory for Gina in this one. As the scores clearly demonstrate there was nothing in this one as the pendulum swung back and forth. Having battled back twice to level an arrears Gina had the extra finishing power at the end and took the 5th at a canter.
Next up London snr v McMeckan.
All about face for the author who'd just about recovered from a strenuous county weekend. Normally it's a slow start and then get going. This time, the opposite. James was a bit slow out of the blocks and the author took the 1st. After a 3-1 lead in the 2nd though, there was a big change of momentum. Thanks largely to far too many poor lengths by the author, James stepped up it up a notch or three and comfortably took the rest of the games.
Next door: Robbins v Baker.
This was an exact counterpoint to the author's game. Lots of hitting the ball in exactly the right place from JEJ, whilst appearing to be virtually immobile. I really don't know how he does it. Neil looked a bit subdued on this occasion, but the quality of shot was enough to clean up for JEJ.
Last on: Culver v Stabler.
With his teammates being as sympathetic to "the new Colin Payne" as usual, Sam looked a bit out of sorts in the bit I saw of this match. Simon went about the business of finishing things off as efficiently as normal, and I even heard him query a call - truly one for the audio scrapbook!
And so a good win for PL. The chat in the bar is probably best having a veil drawn over it. Suffice it to say that Sam will probably be wary every time he walks past a shop with wide screen TV's on display in case he sees the product of his misdemeanors on show for all the world, and James will have to work on making his excuses for waking up in strange beds more plausible sounding.
Memo to all; before you get your iPhones and iPads syncing to the cloud, make sure you understand the implications of the technology first!
