Report

Report:PL 1 were on their tod at Langley Towers again last night as we entertained Dulwich 1. This fixture list malfunction that has been allowed to sneak through seems to be causing untold heartache, with 1 team at home one week, and 3 teams at home the next (necessitating use of ODs). Not good. What with that and the agonies of arranging Thursday home games (designed to avoid ODs) it's all a bit of a pain. Anyway, the upshot was that the terraces were a bit more lightly populated than might otherwise be hoped.

First on: London jnr v Garner.
Ever keen to jump the starting gun, Tim was raring to go. Cometh the hour cometh the man etc etc.
A very keenly contested 1st game saw Steve being a little unfortunate to not quite sneak it, having played good squash. What followed has been seen to occur on a few occasions though. Whereas Tim kept on in the same vein, Steve seemed for some unknown reason to go right off the boil. Mistakes crept in, frustration mounted, and this knocked a major dent in his game. The good ship Garner sailed on serenely whilst all this transpired to round off a 3-0 win.

Next door: London snr v Briggs.
A quip to Steve P that; "you should remember", when he asked for confirmation of Lauren's name, backfired spectacularly for the author as a bit of ring rust led to a first ever PAR bagel against the author. Thankfully things looked up from there on in and the rest of the match was very tight. Sadly though, despite a decent lead in the 2nd and level pegging for most of the 3rd, a bit of a lack of control by the author when presented with opportunities and the complete opposite from Lauren proved decisive. Just too good in fact. Nevertheless, a decent match despite the result.

Next on: Pratt v Brownsdon.
I'm thankful I didn't see more than the last few points of this as it appeared to be a return to the bad old days for Steve. He just didn't look interested in the bit I saw and given that the match could have turned on this not seeing it was the best option for your trusty scribe.
For some incomprehensible reason a string going resulted in Steve using a circa 1990 Prince teardrop Extender despite being offered (and probably having) better equipment. Anyway, nuff said - comfortable win for Will, and Langley holed below the waterline.

Next on: Culver v Sweeney.
I only saw this via a bit of peripheral vision whilst marking, but from PL's point of view this was an unfortunate match up as Simon blitzed through as the strongest no.3 in this league since the all pro days. All done and dusted in fairly short order, and some respectability for the home team.

Final match on: Robbins v Hitchens.
JEJ hasn't got a very good head to head with Neil, and coming in off the back of his usual Tuesday coaching schedule probably wasn't expecting (as was anyone else) to improve on it. Going 0-2 down seemed to confirm the suspicions that this was going to be a real bad day at the office for PL, but in a ye of little faith turnaround, JEJ snuck the 3rd, and having got a sniff proceeded to look a little more mobile. As this happened Neil started to miss the odd one and gradually the tide turned.
It looked for a moment like it could all go Pete Tong in the 5th for JEJ. Having amassed a 10-3 lead, an unexpectedly loud encouraging call from Lauren in the bleachers (prompting a dial down on the back mounted volume control from Tim) seemed to perk Neil up. 10-3 up turned into 10-8 up, but with a masterfully executed backhand overhead nick at match ball JEJ clinched it.

So, in the end quite close though for a time it looked horrid. Much merriment in the bar concerning their resident 26 year old Over 35 (and the photo/jumper seemed to support the mistake). Envious glances at Lauren's specially ordered omelet as the rest took a break from Olly's fare for burgers and chips, but Tim had the last laugh with a 99 minus the ice cream (i.e. a flake that had mysteriously appeared) for dessert.
