Report: | BCC Scrape Through In 5 Game Thriller
BCC extended their winning streak to 4 games after a gutsy win over a full strength Cascades team.
King Lewy Vs Mo (No 1)
In last seasons' encounter, King Lewy had caught MO in the eye, which left MO unable to compete as he could hardly see the ball. Just in case, King Lewy had brought along a spare set of contacts for this weeks encounter.
Captain never saw this game, (not because he had been caught in the eye by King Lewy) as he was battling it out on the other court.
From sources King Lewy was on top form, and comprehensively beat MO, despite a brief fightback in the 3rd. King Lewy has now won his opening 4 matches. Nxt weeks encounter against Steve London will surely provide him with his toughest test of the season so far.
Captain vs Tony Lake (No 4)
Having played squash in the UK Corporate Games all weekend, (where he came 5th) you would have thought Captain would have been in top form. Captains' mind had other ideas.
The first two games were shared, but the rallies were long and the errors were limited. Both players were feeling the heat, and Captain was beginning to stiffen up all over.
Tony took a commanding lead in the 3rd, 8-2, but then began to wilt under pressure. Captain rallied back to 8 - 8 with some determined retrieving, but Tony just edged the game 10-8.
The 4th followed the same pattern with Captain allowing Tony to take the lead, and then Tony returning the favour and allowing Captain to claw his way back. Captain fought back to 7-8 with Tony tiring, however a routine drop was tinned by Captain, whilst Tony watched in amazement sat in the back corner. This was the final straw for Captain in what was a frustrating game. Tony took the fourth 9 - 7 and squared the match at 1-1.
JT Vs Stuart (No 2)
JT was sporting a bronzed look after relaxing in Turkey, whilst Stuart was sporting a bit of beer gut. To be honest that's all Captain saw of the game, as he was playing and marking on the other court.
By all accounts JT played really well and looked like he had got his fitness back. The first 3 games were tight with Stuart taking a 2-1 lead, but then JT went 8-2 up in the 4th. JT had it in the bag, but Stuart fought back and nicked the game 10-9.
Match at 2-1 to Cascades and 9.30pm
Tony Vs Hany (No 5)
What a match this was. Youngster Hany playing his first season with the big boys had no answer to Tony in the first. 9-2 Tony.
After some wise words from MO, Hany began to find his range and wear Tony down with some deadly nicks and great retrieving. Hany won that game 9-8.
There was nothing between them in the next two games as they shared them 9-6 each.
Going into the 5th though, Hany was on top, and looked like recording a surprising victory. He built a lead of 6-3, with Tony appearing down and out. Hany was nicking whilst Tony was tinning.
Tony then went on a remarkable run of points, hitting one shot of the graphite, getting a lucky bounce on the next, and then Hany managing to hit himself with a straight drop. This was too much for Hany, and Tony recorded a great comeback and also levelled the match at 2-2.
This was a great game to mark, played in great spirit. A special mention must go to Hany, who at 17 has a really level head, and didn't once lose his temper.
Match 2-2 - 10.15pm
Dutch Prodigy Vs Ashley (No 3)
Dutch prodigy had worked late, and then run from the station to make the match in time. He'd built up enough of a sweat before the game had even started.
Dutch prodigy won the opening game, and despite being 8-2 down took the 2nd 10-8. The writing was on the wall for Cascades. Dutch Prodigy was rallying Ashley to death, and was showing no signs of fatigue. The 3rd game was equally close, with Dutch Prodigy serving for the match at 8-6. Ashley wasn't going to go down fighting and won a nerve racking game 10-8.
By now all the team members were watching this match, with the loudest cheers coming from the Cascades end. Dutch Prodigy was tired, and Ashley was gaining in confidence. He won the 4th easy 9-2.
Dutch Prodigys' team rallied round him to gee him up for one final push. With a change of racquet dutch Prodigy found a second wind.
It was Ashley who looked tired as Ducth Prodigy hit winner after winner. At 8-2, Ashley stopped mid rally as he thought he had heard a gasp Cascade down from the viewing gallery. Ducth Prodigy nonchantly dropped the ball at the front. Game Set And Match Dutch Prodigy and BCC.
Not the best way to end such an epic match, but a remarkable turnaround by Dutch Prodigy.
The match ended 3-2 to BCC, 11-11 on countback, and it was 11pm.
Next week is a top of the table clash against the London Boys. Hopefully tonights win will give the belief to BCC that they can win this match aswell.
