Report

Report:After much deliberation, 40% of the PL team demonstrated that their commitment to the cause goes above and beyond the call of duty. Adam (half of that 40%) even experienced the joy of marking 1.5 matches in an away tie!

First up was Whirlwind against Dan. This was a real match for aficianados of technique. Nevertheless, it was a good match with plenty of finesse mixed in with some power hitting on the warm courts. Despite having to come back from a long way down in the 2nd, Steve ran out a fairly comfortable winner 3-0.

On the other court Steve L went on against Alex. The other half of the 40% having climbed off his sick bed (with a bit of arm twisting from the old man) took the first as Alex made of few too many mistakes. After this, Alex got into his stride and slotted in some beautiful shots from all over the place. I suppose when you're as reluctant to run as Alex is you have to have something a bit special to compensate, but the trickle boasts in particular were well disguised and perfectly executed.

A change of tactics and some good short stuff turned the match around for Steve, compensating for his inability to move as well a normal.

Adam was next on against Toby. Didn't see this one but after an apparently tight start Adam eased his dodgy shoulder through to run out a comfortable winner 3-0.

Next on were Clive and Simon. In what seems to be becoming a pattern of late, Clive stumbled around a bit trying to get into the game. Just did enough in the first, but the turning point came at the end of the 2nd. After a disputed call and a "frank exchange of views" between the players (whilst the marker - in splendid isolation from the players - discussed the colour of sofas - didn't you Steve?), Clive became ticked off enough to change up a gear or two. The 3rd and 4th were whizzed through in short order thanks to Simon's inadvertent motivational tactics for a 3-1 win to Clive.

Matt was having an up and down battle on the other court while this was going on. Both players were playing a similar style of game, and the match ebbed and flowed accordingly. Clearly the deciding factor in the 5th was Matt's weekend training regime and morning gym visit. He managed to hang in and sneak the deciding game to win 3-2.

This turned out to be a good nights work for PL against an admittedly weakened Amida without their regular no.2. Watch this space for the collapse.
