Report

Report:"Mighty Hill" derail the PL freight train.

It had to happen. BH pipped previously unbeaten PL in a hard fought match.

First up were PB Lennox v London.
The first two games were very tight and were decided by both players snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. In the 3rd the author really got into "the zone" and continued to cruise through to 4-1 in the 4th. At this point some of the most mistake ridden squash ever seen was evident, with neither player able to capitalise on gilt-edged opportunities or numerous occasions. In the end the author emerged victorious thanks to a final errant boast by PB. The crowd were treated to a bit of a warm up for events to follow, as the frustration levels of both players gave rise to a few expletives.

Meanwhile on the other court, it was the Debt Collector Bushell v Gill.
Matt was on and off pretty swiftly by all accounts. He'd played, showered, recovered etc to the point where the author asked whether he was feeling on good form not having realised it was done and dusted in the twinkling of an eye. The training regime of PR junkets seems to be good for about 5 points apparently. Verdict - must try harder.

Next up Melbourne v Bonner.
Didn't see this one either, but Andy B went two up and then hit the wall again, allowing Stuart to reel him in. Still on the long haul back to fitness after injury. He assures me that running will be the order of the day whilst on hols.

Following on from this was Lane v Rich.
John went off at his usual breakneck pace, with the ball being thumped incredibly hard to all corner of the court. As the match went on Adam's iffy shoulder appeared to be doing him no favours, and John ran out a comfortable winner.

The last match to finish was probably the match of the night. McManus v Whirlwind Pratt.
The first two games were very tight, with both players producing some good stuff. Gordon edged them both, and Steve could feel the onset of his lo n n g g g unbeaten record coming to an end. This was obviously motivation enough for a redoubling of his efforts. The 3rd and 4th were duly snatched back (very tight in the 4th) and Gordon was heard to mutter about the fickle hand of fate being against him. Steve hung on in there to win the 5th, treating the crowd to the full range of the most colourful (mostly blue) vocabulary in the league along the way.

So, a hard fought victory for Hill. All that remained afterwards was for BH to hunt down the (3 weeks worth of) disappearing match fees !
