Report

Report:PL got their campaign off to a good start. Unbelievably managing to field a full strength side, all got off to a winning start.

Adam & Mike on first. Didn't see this one but Adam apparently played pretty well and left Mike gazing back to former tennis glories.

Clive v Tony were up next. Tony really didn't get going at the start, with Clive cruising through until about half way through the 2nd. At this point Tony had woken up and took full advantage of the old man's frailties. Still, having got to 8-4 down in the 3rd Clive suddenly remembered that the idea is to hit the ball onto the bit between the top and bottom lines and managed to steady the ship to ease through in four.

Steve P and Hany were battling on the other court whilst this was going on. Again, didn't see this, but Steve was apparently going through his usual "look, if I wait in the back corner until your drop shot is an inch off the floor and then come screaming in to volley it, will you believe how fast I am ?" routine. All this clearly didn't do his already dodgy ankle any good. He managed to come through 3-1 against an improving Hany though.

Steve L and Stuart were next up to bat. Steve played some very steady squash in this. Stuart didn't get a hand-in until the 2nd game, and spent long periods of time leaning on his racket wheezing and having the mick taken out of him by his totally unsympathetic teammates.

Despite Steve losing an 8-4 lead to go 8-9 down in the third (apparently due to Stuart saying "don't you hate it when you travel all the way to a match and only get 2 or 3 points Steve?"), he finished it off 10/9 at a canter.

Last up was the match that everyone had been fighting over for the opportunity to mark (NOT). Matt kept his counsel and just got on with it, whilst Ash decided that Adam (marking) should get an ear bashing as penance for beating him in the last match of the winter season (although he'd clearly forgotten who actually won that match).

Still, after narrowly dropping the first, Matt cruised serenely through to a 3-1 win. All in all, a good nights work, and thankfully no BBGB to cane the bar bill.
