Shock, Horror. King Lewy dethroned.
Bracketed [] comments where appropriate (plus headline!) inserted by London senior as requested. Ian seems to have summed it all up pretty thoroughly.
Going into the match, both teams had impressive 100% records, which team would wilt under the heat?
Park Langley was like a bombsite [as much of a surprise to us as you], with two show courts out of action, and no bar to speak of.
The matches were spread across the club, meaning your intrepid reporter couldn't be in two places at once. (hopefully London senior will be able to shed light on any matches Captain may have missed).
Adam Vs TD (No 5 - West Wing)
Captain was given the pleasure of marking this eventful game. I hope both parties don't take offence but the squash in the 1st two games was awful. Neither player was adapting to the sweltering heat. Shots were going astray, players were getting in each others way, and tempers were being frayed.
TD somehow managed to win the first two games, making less errors than his counterpart. Captain sensed this was going to be over in a flash and begun to get ready for his match. Marking was handed over to Matt, but what Captain didn't foresee was London Snr's advice being a match turner.
Sporting a 70's headband, Adam swept Tony aside in the nxt 2 games. Tony was getting increasingly frustrated with his squash, and looked like losing for the 1st time this season.
But, yet again TD found some powers of recovery and managed to fight his way through the 5th and win 9-6.
Pratt vs JT (No 3 - East Wing)
JT put in an impressive performance last week, and the same was needed in this match if BCC were going to record their 5th consecutive win.
He was certainly dressed the part in a Pin-Stripe suit. Although dressed for the occasion, JT was unable to rise to the occasion.
According to my sources (JT) "The heat was too much, it's impossible to play in these conditions, I couldn't breathe [this probably accounted for an an unannounced mid-game departure from the court - perhaps to adjust his tie]. Don't worry I'll be fighting fit next week" Next time JT, take your suit off before you play.
Pratt over powered JT in 3 games.
Matt Vs Captain (No 4 - West Wing)
By now, the court had reached 100 degrees, both Matt and Captain were dripping before the match had even started.
Captain has begun (after 12yrs) to use tactics in his matches lately, rather than sheer skill. He slowed it down perfectly in the 1st game, and let Matt make the errors. In the 2nd game Matt hit a series of winners where in the previous game they would have hit the tin.
Reverting back to his patient tactics Captain wrapped up victory taking the next two games comfortably. (Viewers from the gallery were heard to say "What a great performance by Captain, he showed no sign of fatigue and actually used his brain for once") [Can't really add much to this level of modesty]
London Snr Vs Dutch Prodigy (No 2 - East Wing)
Captain was playing during this match so has no idea what went on. Presumably London snr started slowly dropping the 1st game as he normally does, before wrapping up a comfortable victory [Perfectly summed up. London snr however disproved all that old tosh about impossible to play on, 100 degree courts].
The match was all square. It would come down to the unbeaten No 1's
London Jnr Vs King Lewy (No 1 - West Wing)
The scoreline doesn't reflect the closeness of the 1st two games. The rallies were extremly long, the retrieving from both players was excellent and the errors were few and far between.
King Lewy was 8-0 down in the 2nd but had a mini-revival as London Jnr made some unexpected mistakes. However, one too many shots from London Jnr, and the game was over for King Lewy.
So, King Lewy dethroned, Bromley CC lose for the 1st time this season, and Park Langley begin to runaway with the league.
Some hope though for the rest of the league is that London Jnr is now off to Madison (bring back some cheese Steve) for 6 weeks.
BCC will be looking to claw some points back next week with the visit of Biggin Hill.
