Report: | Birthday Boy Clinches Victory For Cannons
Cannons completed the double over BCC, after a tight fought victory on tuesday night. Their 2nd defeat on the trot for BCC, eliminated their slim chances of clinching the runner up spot.
Handsome James Vs Sam (No 1)
The previous encounter earlier on in the season saw Sam come from 2-0 down to win 3-2. The return leg was another close encounter with both players showing remarkable powers of recovery, and some deft touches around the front of the court. Handsome James won the 1st 9-8, and then battled gamely in the following 3. Sam had enough determination though to come out on top.
Sam didn't stay around to support his team, he had to rush off. According to an unnamed source, Sam has met a new girl - 'Tiffany Towers, a 35yr old fitness instructor, with 3 sprogs and a face like a porn star'. Sam hasn't stayed after the matches since he met his new girl.
'If you had a bird to go home to like that, why would you want to stay for food?' added Richard.
Not to be outdone, Handsome James finally managed to get the number of the fit bar maid.
El Capitano vs Dave (No 3)
In his last game before his squash break, El Capitano took on wily old fox Dave Leach. Compared to last week, El Capitano performed much better (well he couldn't do any worse). He took the first 9-7, however a stitch began to hinder his running and Dave seized his opportunity taking the 2nd comfortably and then racing into a 5-0 lead. Daves' concentration levels then plummeted, and El Capitano went 7-5 up. However a routine drive into the tin (that once would have hit the dead nick) proved to be El Capitano's downfall. Dave never looked back after that and ran out an easy 3-1 winner.
Cannons were 2-0 up and coasting.
TD Vs Beevers (No 5)
TD was supporting a bronzed look after his summer holiday in Turkey, whilst Beevers looked weary and out of shape, what with the imminent arrival of his newborn.
It took a while for TD to get warmed up, going 6-0 down in the first, however this was only a slight blip. TD was impressive on his return from holiday and gave Beevers no chance whatsoever. After returning from Turkey, TD was a delight to mark.
Cannons 2-1
Dutch Prodigy Vs Richard (No 2)
This match began after JT and Peter, but it adds to the excitement if I comment on this one first.
El Capitano missed this match as he was marking, but it looked like Dutch Prodigy was seizing his opportunity to fight for the number 1 spot, what with Handsome James going back to uni. Richard however looked shattered after his Stag do in Estonia. An easy win for MR Reliable.
All Square. 2 - 2
JT Vs Peter (No 4)
Without a win all season (despite some good performances), JT would surely break his duck against Peter, and give BCC the win.
The 1st game was a scrappy affair, with JT leading comfortably only to throw it away at the death. JT changed his tactics after this and ran away with the match, taking the next two games losing only 1 point. For some strange reason JT then changed his tactics in the 4th and conspired to lose 9-0.
This set up a tense finale, with both players giving it all they had. JT looked in control, but Peter battled back to level it at 7-7. The growls from Dave in the gallery inspired Peter to one final push, clinching the game and the match 9-7.
A tough defeat for JT who had looked like recording his first victory. A belated birthday present for Peter.
End Of Season Squash Report
Letdown Lewy (W7-L3-GF24-GA14) - Some good performances from numero uno, but more often than not he thinks he's bigger than the team.
Will Letdown Lewy become more of a team player?
Handsome James (W2-L8-GF10-GA20)- Had some very tough matches after his return from university. Has slowly begun regaining his fitness, and this can only improve once he starts playing down in Canterbury.
Will he ever sort his hair out?
Dutch Prodigy - (W8-L6-GF32-GA21)Played in every game this season, and despite the jump up in class, has coped admirably, winning his share of vital matches.
Will he ever lose that beer gut that he's got from playing Cricket?
JT (W0-L10-GF8-GA30)- Every week I ask him 'What You Got For Me JT?' and every week it's a bloody defeat. He's form has improved though, and I'm in no doubt that he will win more than he loses in the winter.
Will he ever win a bloody match?
El Capitano (W9-L4-GF30-GA18)- Been a tough season for the troubled leader. Found it hard to combine a new job, the gym and squash.
Will he return?
TD (W10-L1-GF32-GA11)- Been the best performer this season, losing only one match. Hopefully he can continue his fine form into the winter.
Will his jokes ever improve?
