Report: | Was expecting a nice stroll through this one, not so.
First up 'A good few beers' Lennox v Mike.
AGFB fresh from his comp win at the weekend was oozing confidence going on court and promptly went 2-0 down against a very steady and fit looking Mike. Lots of long hard rallies on very hot courts and not a sign of a winning shot being played meant this game would run and run if AGFB could close out the third, this he finally did and Alex marking the game made himself comfortable and caught up on a little kip!
AGFB wrapped this one up 3-2 with both players working extremly hard with some great pick ups right to the end. Both fit lads but Alex has offered his services to coach a drop shot into their games.
Paul v Debt Collector.
Paul shot off into a 6-0 lead with the Collector playing what he thought was good squash, plan B meant not forcing the rallies and the points starting to flow.2-0 up and 6-2 up in the third DC is thinking which lager to shout up but Paul was not about to roll over rallying out and crunching some fine winners to take the third 9-6.The forth was the opposite to the third with Paul going into a 6-3 lead but a little fatigue seemed to set in with a few unforced errors allowing the Collector to nick it 9-6.
Dan v Si.
Last time these two played was a 3-2 marathon to Si.Dan was up for the same again but Si fresh off his surf board after a week in St Ives was still fully chilled.
2-0 down and 8-2 in the third it looked all over but Si finally decided the board wasn't working and changed it for a squash racket and promptly got it back to 9-9. Dan at this point decided to try his first delicate shot and stuck it straight in the nick to wrap this one up.
Come on Si you need that session Saturday!!
Grant v 'Laney'
A much improved Grant since I last saw him and 'Laney' obviously not able to purchase his 'powdered adrenelin rush' before the match meant this was a hard scrap with both players hitting some good shots followed by some crap ones which made for interesting viewing. A few whispers into Grant's ear seemed to do the trick for Jon in the forth which he closed out 9-6.
Alex v Toby.
A welcome addition to the B/hill squad and indeed a good addition to the Kent Priory,Toby making his first appearence on a squash court for many months look a touch rusty losing the first 9-6.Quality shots started to flow in the second and third to go 2-1 up but a lot of hard retrieving from Alex's deft touches started to have an effect. An expression of 'What the hell have I got myself into'seemed to be permenantly etched on to Toby's face throughout the forth but thankfully for him Alex had the same expression,3-1 to Toby. A good match played in a good spirit with the marker not having to make a decision all night.
A quick note to finish.
Debt Collector finally finished the night off with the task of rounding up the funds which proved to be a challenge. Si being the only one to stump up £10, AGFB had bugger all with Laney and Toby only able to muster up a few coppers between them. This left me with no choice but to ask if the opposition wouldn't mind paying some of our match fees which they duly did. Well done the Amida lads, take a 4-1 pasting then forking out for the opposition as well 'QUALITY' |
