Report

Report: For the second time running, Knole's opponents used their Sat Navs to find their way - to the Manager's house! Unfortunately, Mrs Manager is fed up handing out cups of tea to stray strangers and turned them away.

By the time Justin 'Bodyline' Jardine and James 'The Yorkshire Ringer' Fender had located the club, Knole had already realised that they were in for a tough time. It must be the fact that they are such precocious old farts that makes Knole's opponents feel they have to bring out all their big guns to stuff the upstarts. Poor 'PJ' is starting to feel unloved again now he is back in familiar territory. For, whereas all his old mates playing against Bexley IIs gave way to his superior knowledge and experience, he is finding a distinct lack of respect amongst the new wave of under 50s sweeping Div 2.

'PJ' took an early lead and then hung on against 'Biker' Tullett, who was keen to get away early, but by the time 'Gentleman' Jim refused him a let at match ball, he was already looking the more tired. His protests were far too polite and softly uttered to get a result.

A rusty Jerry Staffurth also raced into an early 2-0 lead against Justin then lost fitness and accuracy Justas Justin found his. 2-0 to SP.

Gary won the weigh-in against a svelte Pascal and used his extra reserves to stay in the match until the third game. He kept his temper apparently this week, but not his winning streak.
So 3-0 to SP - game over.

Jim looked like the best number 5 in the league for the first two games as he hared around the court - pausing only to trip over Tom's tiny toes. Tom did well to nick the first and third games - Jim interspersing incredible 'gets' with an equal number of dumps from easy volleys. In between head-butting the walls and sliding into corners on his back, Jim appeared to twist his ankle and from then on found his movement hampered. He spent more time at the back of the court than on his back in the later games and will have been disappointed to lose after all of his early efforts.

Chris and James at 1 were pretty but never as tense as a first string match should be. Chris was taking it seriously, partly out of respect for a talented opponent, partly to preserve his, still, unbeaten run of 12 months (if only PL's Dave Harris can break a leg before the return). In the end, the few extra consolation points for Knole were achieved early enough for a light supper of twenty or so mixed proteins and salads followed by assorted puddings.
