Report: | This result was not in the script but come the winter this may be a case of beware the Greek bearing gifts when the 1sts put out a full strength team and normal service is resumed.
Meanwhile we might as well make hay while the sun shines. The order of play might have had a hand in dictating the outcome. First on was Tim v Jamie which saw Tim producing his attractive brand of cerebral squash and beating Jamie 3-1. Then came the first surprse result of the evening with Jon beating Will Brownsdon with well crafted strokes and a strategy, taking Will to the front of the court more often than his opponent cared for and then picking him off with shots to the back. Jon win 3-1 and the match score was now 1-1.
Will Nicholson then went on against Antonio who had returned from a five week injury last week. Plainly suffering from a lack of match fitness, Antonio went down 0-3 to Will and the 2nds were 2-1 up.
Gordon v Ben followed this and Gordon has proved to be the find of the summer, having last week beaten Colin Payne at Tunbridge 3-1. However when playing Ben form rareley counts but Gordon maintained his, hitting straight and taking the rubber 3-0. That gave the 2nds the win, the match score now standing at 3-1.
That left Chris v Jim in the dead rubber which Jim took 3-0. It would have been interesting to see what the outcome would have been had this been played earlier leaving the Jon Barnes v Will Brownsdon match as the decider.
An enjoyable evening at Dulwich and we all can look forward to the greater challenge that the winter brings. |
