Report

Report:A close result last night, but quite a few quick fire matches as PL1 entertained T.Wells at Langley Towers.

First up: Pratt v Powell
Steve really started this one as though he had a train to catch. All this new found enthusiasm was barely contained as he chased down everything with the trademark speed and power hitting. Johnny competed well, but it was really only ever going one way. By the time the 3rd arrived, there was a fair bit of leaning on the racket going on, and Steve romped home to get PL off to good start.

Out on graveyard court: Peel jnr v Romo
Didn't see a ball of this, but it was over in pretty short order although the scoreline in the games seems to suggest it was closer than the speed of match end would suggest. Nevertheless, Pete was off with a 3-0 win in his pocket and match levelled.

Next up: London snr v Newberry
This seems to be turning into a bit of an action replay from the author's perspective. Silly mistakes in the last two points of the 2nd, and a lack of focus in the 4th saw a tight and long match proceeding into the 5th. Never a good idea with Deano. The 5th game of a match is really his domain and so it proved as the author was run all round the court on tiring legs and Deano completed the comeback.

On t'other court: London jnr v Barry
I didn't see a ball of this one since it started after and finished before my match, but according to Steve it was pretty quick. Steve sounds to have been in control from the off and ran out a comfortable 3-0 winner to take the match into a decider.

Last on, on the graveyard court: Robbins v Payne
If ever you wanted a person the rely on in a decider it's JEJ. Looking a bit more sprightly around the court after his holiday training camp(!), JEJ made a few uncharacteristic shot selection errors, but generally seemed to play his usual measured game. Not to be outdone though, Colin put in some great boast and cross court nick winners. This was a good competitive match, with the ultimate difference probably Colin struggling a bit to get some of the short stuff, particularly on the forehand. Tight in the first 3 but comfortable in the 4th.

TW headed for the hills leaving Johnny as the sole flag bearer. A good night's entertainment generally.
