Report:Twas the night of the suspicious kecks!

The PL3 number 4 turned up 1st not quite sure which string he was playing so it was good that he did not go on against the Dulwiich number 5.

1st on court where the real number 4's Andrew and Michael who seemed a bit nervous at the start and this made it easy for Andrew early on. At 5-0 up Andrew seemed on course for an easy night. Michael got a small foothold in the game with a couple of points at 7-0 down but Andrew then finished it off. The 2nd saw Andrew in even more command of proceedings and he won that without dropping a point. The 3rd saw Michael starting to play better and early on there was a 4 or 5 let rally followed by 4 or 5 handouts so although it was Andrew picking up the points he was now having to work harder and this was potentially a crucial point in the match. Michael was playing better and Andrew was finding it harder to score points. Just at that point however Andrew marched away with it to win 3-0

By now the suspicious kecks had arrived - a pair of black male undercrackers and a single white sock! They were discovered by the eagle eyed Dulwich number 3 on the floor near the viewing area of court 3. No one was owning up to them but the Dulwich number 4 thought they might be his! Closer inspection failed to convince him either way whether they were his or not as er-indoors obviously makes this purchase for him. A sniff test by the Dulwich number 4 failed to provide confirmation either way! A lost property report was filed but the lost property attendant (Noreen) refused to take receipt of the said items.

Anyway back to the squash and it was Greg and Steve up next. These two played each other a couple of year back when it was quite close but Greg seems to have improved in that time as he was all over this one like skidmarks on a pair of underpants - not sure why that metaphor came to mind! At 6-0 down Steve got on the board but Greg rattled off the points to go 1 up. The 2nd saw Greg in full charge and just one handout was all that Steve could muster. The 3rd was a bit tighter and Steve had many chances to put points on the board but Greg snuffed all of them out and ran out a clear winner.

Back to the kecks and by now they had been prodded and poked (no not in the facebook way!) thus causing them to travel a good distance along the balcony - no doubt they wanted a better view of the squash!

Next up were Tom and Richard and Tom seemed in total command early on with Richard finding it hard to get going. Tom was soon rattling off the points and just two handouts meant that a single bagel was notched up. The 2nd seemed to be going the same way until at 6-0 down Richard played a sublime mishit reverse spin drop to claim his 1st point. After a couple of handouts Richard repeated this feat with another sublime mishit top spin drop nick and the writing seemed to be on the wall for Tom as there was no way he could compete at this level. Richard then began to play much better and some solid squash took hold for a few rallys and all of a sudden he was just 1 point behind at 6-5 down, That was the signal to Tom to pull his finger out and he killed off the game with 4 straight winning rallys. The 3rd saw Richard start off strong and pretty quickly he was 6-0 up and playing some good squash. Tom dug in and managed to pull it back level only to see Richard pull away again.Tom was not having any of it and he took the initiative back and soon he was at match point, Richard staved off the inevitable for one more handout and then Tom finished it off.

Back at keckgate and still no one was owning up but suspicion was beginning to point towards the only person not to have been asked so far.

Next up were Paddy and Paul and this was a great match. Paddy had the better squash and the cleaner shots but Paul had some amazing retrieval techniques like in one rally where he performed a horizontal dive at absolute full stretch to reach a boast and played a stonking drop which Paddy was so flummoxed by that he only just reached the ball but ended up tinning it. The 1st game had Paul in the lead early at 4-0 (maybe Paddy was struggling due to a missing item of clothing) but once Paddy got going he was soon level and moving ahead. Paddy was playing some nice squash at times but was having to work hard to finish off some rallys but it was he who took the 1st game. The 2nd followed a similar pattern to the 1st with Paul up 4-0 then Paddy reeling off a bunch of pants sorry points, At game point to Paddy it was at this point that Paul did his fully outstretched dive but alas this did not stop Paddy but another mega long rally had him struggling for breath at the end of this game at 2-0 up. The 3rd was tight all the way with some energy sapping squash but at 6-4 down Paul played some tight squash which did for Paddy so it was game on at 2-1. The 4th was ding dong all the way with Paul ahead then Paddy then Paul and so on. At 7-7 it seemed Paddy needed to finish it as Paul was not going away and Paddy duly did the business to win a tough encounter.

Kecks still not owned up to but we knew by now who's they were.

Finally we had Dave and Nilen. With Dave back from a week off and a wedding in Turkey it was always going to be tough for him especially when he had to wrestle with the ferocity and skills of someone like Nilen, The 1st was tight early on but once Nilen got going at 3-3 he took point after point and won it quite quickly. The 2nd was going Nilen's way but at 5-0 down Dave was determined to get a foot hold in the match and duly strung together 7 points in a row. It looked like Dave would level things up but a few mistakes and some tight play by Nilen got him back level at 7-7. Dave persevered and made it to game point 1st only for Nilen to take the serve back at which point Dave seemed to be trying too hard resulting in Nilen drawing level and then going ahead and eventually winning it 10-8. In the 3rd Dave was desperate not to let Nilan have it and Dave got an early lead and kept it until at 7-4 up he allowed Nilen back in and he played some great shots with the winner probably the best.

A solid 4-1 win for Dulwich against a depleted Park Lengley 3rd team.

Still no takers on the kecks front but once Paddy returned from the shower (no doubt going commando!) he owned up to being the proud owner of the missing items - mystery solved at last!
