Report: | The first game of Mike v Ghurkan was very scrappy with both players punishing the tin. Mike nicked it 10/9 and thereafter won the next two games comfortably as Ghurkan struggled to cope with the heat.
Although it was only the second match of the evening Keeley’s match with Christo would end up settling the overall outcome of the winning team. Christo started sharply with hard tight lengths to take the first. Keeley then fought back and had the final say in most of the long rallies. By the end of the third match Christo was out on his feet and took his rest period laying on the bench outside gulping in the air. So it was a surprise that Christo took the next game to take it to a fifth set. In the fifth Keeley concentrated more on accuracy than power and won it fairly comfortably.
Didn’t see much of Ian v Paul, but a comfortable 3-0 win for Ian returning from a self- inflicted injury when he jumped down the stairs of a coach whilst wearing high heels. Don’t ask!
Didn’t see any of Dan and Nanu’s match but gather Dan was well beaten.
Kieran and I had a tough match. We had some good rallies. Most games were tight except maybe for the last. Perhaps the crucial point came when I gave up a lead in the third and then called set one at 8-8. (This was partly for tactical reasons but mainly because I was knackered). My gamble didn’t pay off. 3-1 to Kieran.
As Mike “the Sausage” left early I was dribbling over the prospect of having plenty of leftover sausages to take home for today’s lunch. I didn’t bargain on Christo “the Sausage” taking over Mike’s mantle. Oh well, boring cheese sandwiches for me today. |
