Report: | A close competitive encounter last night as PL entertained Dulwich 2. With Jamie not in the Dulwich line-up and JEJ still suffering with his knee from the previous week, the teams looked pretty evenly matched - and so it proved.
First on: Pratt v Harpur
This was very tight all the way through. I only saw part of it due to marking duties out in the backwoods, but there was nothing in it. Steve probably relied a bit too much on his speed when putting Gordon short, and paid for it with the drops being too tight even for WW to reach on a number of occasions. Having gone behind Steve managed to get it back on track though and ground out a good win.
Out on court 4: London jnr v Clark
This was seen by pretty much no-one (except the author marking and Tom for a while), which was a shame, because although it was a fairly short match, there was some good stuff in there. Chris was a little uncharacteristically "mistakey", but nonetheless picked off some good volleys when presented with a hard cross court he'd read. Steve, though was in no mood to mess around and played very tight controlled squash, exploiting the grippiness of the walls to maximum effect with both short kills and dying lengths.
Next on: London snr v Nicholson
Another very close fought match, but in truth far too many mistakes from both players, often at the end of a long rally. Sadly for the author (again!) it's the end of game situations that needs sorting out, with decent leads frittered away repeatedly. Will hung on in there despite looking tired, and in the end did enough to close it out as the author let his frustration get the better of him in the middle of the 5th.
Out on court 4: Nickalls v Green
Didn't see a ball of this, but Tom did a sterling job as a stand in and managed to eke out a good win in another seesaw 3-2. This one was enough to see PL flop over the finishing line in first place, so a good win.
Last on as ever: Peel snr v Joyce
Very close first two games with honours evenly shared, but in the 3rd, Nick seemed to totally lose the plot and fed Paddy with far too many cheap points. A lot better in the 4th, but at the end of the game it got away from him and Paddy was able to round off the win.
A well attended after match meal with last orders arriving as we sat down to eat. A long enjoyable evening's squash. |
