Report

Report:With both sides slightly below full strength, PL's missing no.1 and BCC's missing no.2 still ensured a good match up for last night encounter at PL.

First up: London snr v McMecken
Forced yet again into an earlier appearance than desirable by the lack of anyone else being there by 8pm, the author surprisingly got into his stride early on, racing away to take the 1st as James got the rust out of his system. From the 2nd onwards it was a bit different though. Lots of power driving combined with yet another very lively ball that seemed to markedly accelerate off the floor (what is it with these Dunlop balls since manufacturing went to China - so inconsistent), saw James in the driving seat. The 3rd was the pivot point really. A number of nicks of questionable provenance culminating in "one in the PL hole" at game ball saw James sneak a tight game. The 4th and final game was again nip and tuck but with James always doing enough to keep his nose in front. First blood to the visitors (more of which later).

Next door: Robbins v Baker
Didn't see a ball of this as it was on next door, but judging from the scoreline it was very close. It seems JEJ built up decent lead in the 1st and 3rd before staving off late comebacks from Neil, and controlled the 2nd all the way through. Anyway, a good win, seemingly without any trouble from the sore knee. Definitely a case of taking one for the team as JEJ raced off home to try and salvage some face on the missus's birthday! Nothing like a full day's coaching and a match to put you in domestic credit - NOT.

Next up: Pratt v Stabler
Having pitched up with the team's natty new kit at the start WW was in no mood to mess around. Two more players with a bit more on their minds than squash, since everyone is now reaching the young family stage. Anyway. Steve was in uncompromising mood and put in an impressive performance to take the match 3-0. Another relatively early departure to take the late shift on teething duties.

Next door: Peel jnr v Sweeney
This one was nearly Rumble in the Jungle mark 2. An early panic ensued as Peel snr and jnr debated who had removed Jack's squash shoes from his bag (!), and this saw the author's footwear acting as emergency back-up. Things seemed to be going relatively swimmingly early on, but as your intrepid reporter arrived to watch, a fairly unsavoury incident marred the end of the 2nd game. An accidental clip with the racket at the end of the follow through by Jack, saw Dan getting pretty (very) irate. Various remonstrations, cussing, conduct warnings later, and Jack nicked the game. After that it was all plain sailing as Jack managed to recover his composure enough to see out the match. Another experience to add to the collection, although not a very pleasant one.

Finally Peel snr v Horder
Nick was out for revenge in this one. Neither of them really got fully into their stride at any point. Matt looked distinctly out of sorts throughout and Nick controlled the ball pretty well, with sufficient variation of pace and direction to prompt numerous mistakes and loose balls. Not one for the purist, but Nick doing well to wrap up a good team performance.

As ever in the bar afterwards, it was the usual lively banter with the BCC boys. A good evening's entertainment, somewhat marred by the above described incident.
