Report

Report:There was no sign of any festive cheer as Bexley arrived at Fortress Giant Arches keen to inflict a first Priory loss on the league leaders. Held up the local Carol concerts, the big guns were first to arrive Ben resplendent in a full length tracksuit, Brad less so in last year’s jumper from Aunty.

Tim & Ben took to the court for the marquee fixture that had drawn a crown in from the cold outside. The weather might have threaten a dusting of snow, unfortunately the only dusting was the remnants of some remedial court work that still left a line on the floor. Sporting some calf compressing stockings the home captain spotted the opportunity first, and unusually, rattled through the first game chopping the ball short at every chance. Frustratingly for him and the home crowd, Ben cottoned on quickly. As the ball got colder, the rallies got shorter and the tide turned Bexley’s way. In shade over 30 mins, the Bexley captain had put them one up.

Across the way, in slightly more inclement conditions Neil & Brad were bashing the Pudding round the court. Some high intensity squash saw Brad take the first couple, and then Neil nick one back before his sleigh ran out of reindeers and Brad cruised home. Filling in at five, Dave stepped up to the plate and raced through the first game. Christian bounced back and despite squandering three game points pulled things back to one-all. However, Dave wasn’t done and romped to 9/5 in the third but a few early Christmas presents gave his opponent hope and he took the glory closing that game and then the match in four.

The consolation prize was picked up by Jim, who spent little time beating Gary in three. Despite the relative ease, he did still look a little like Rudolph albeit with more red face than red nose! Last down the Chimney were Antonio and Matt, who had a Cracker of a match that was played at full tilt. Antonio edged the first, but Matt was in impressive form skipping on to the ball at the front of the court and eventually ran out the winner in four.

So a 4-1 win for the away team that keeps the league interesting going in to the Christmas break. There was no turkey dinner, but instead an array of pizza and some fun chat.

Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year except when you play us ;-)
